Demolition Man: Kimi Räikkönen's 7 Wildest Rally Crashes

Kimi Raikkonen is one of the greatest drivers in he world. At least he used to be back in 2007 when he won the Formula 1 driver's championship while driving for Ferrari. Dude was nice. Like, $51 million a year, nice. Then, in 2009, the guy everyone thought would be he next Michael Schumacher decided to leave it all behind and try his hand at rally racing. Suffice it to say, the Citroen Junior Team driver hasn't been performing anywhere near as well has he had been back when he was in F1. He's become known as much for his crashes in the World Rally Championship as for his past accolades in F1. Will he get better? Probably. Especially since he announced yesterday that he doesn't plan on returning to F1 and is looking forward to his next rally season. But before he does, let's look at his 7 wildest rally crashes!

Kimi misinterprets a pace note and pays for it dearly as he careens off the side of the dirt road. It wasn't one of the worst wrecks of the season, and may not have seemed like a devastating crash, but it crushed his chances of finishing the race.

Last year, Kimi managed to flip off the road (more on that later) while driving through this very same course. At least this time he eased his way into the crash. We can't wait to see what happens in 2011!

Slippery pavement is a tricky beast to conquer, and one that Kimi hasn't quite gotten down yet. Despite mismanaging a right-hander and practically demolishing his car, he still managed to finish in 11th place. Which, considering he started in 8th, isn't too bad.

No one is really sure what happened here. From the looks of the fan-footage above, something in the front suspension snapped, hindering his ability to turn. Or, knowing Kimi, he just went into the turn a bit too hot and ended his race.

You saw how he fared when the WRC went back to Finland in 2010, but would you believe us if we told you that he damn near killed himself on the same course the year before? Well, he did. Spectacularly. Flying around a sweeping left-hand turn, Kimi's Ford takes flight and soars into the forest. We'll spare you the "hitting the trees" jokes.

The slightest imperfection in the road can derail a rally driver's entire race. That's what happened here when Kimi cut the apex a little too tight before the car was airborne. Luckily (or unluckily?) the car bounced off the dirt walls before landing on its roof.

The Mexico Rally is as dangerous as it is beautiful. Kimi learned that the hard way when, while pushing to catch seventh place Ogier, he flipped his car no fewer than six times before it came to a rattled rest. It's really a testament to how safe these cars are that both Kimi and his co-driver walked away with minimal injuries.
