10 Incredible Indoor Snow Resorts Around the World

There’s nothing quite like a pristine mountain side. But what happens when the weather turns, and all of that snow disappears? People who love the sport can't just be constantly traveling, living in one part of the world for part of the year and another for the rest (unfortunately, that's sorta what has to happen for Americans). Although it’s still impossible to carve up a mountain in a warm climate (or warm season), there is a happy middle ground: the indoor ski/snowboard resort. While there aren’t any stateside as of yet, there are a few killer locations abroad that you can hit up, no matter what the barometer says. Check them out after the jump.

Contrary to what you're probably thinking, the Montana snow center is not, in fact, located in Montana. It's in the Netherlands. The snow center boasts "a layer of fresh snow falls every night," so you know you're always going to be getting that good good.

This snowy retreat located outside of Auckland, New Zealand, has a 200-meter slope as well as a freestyle park with rails and jumps for big air. These guys get a gold star for bringing a white Christmas to the steamy New Zealand natives: Every year on December 25th, Snow Planet hosts a Christmas party, complete with a three-course meal (or buffet) and access to the snowy slopes.

While this place has a few killer indoor ski slopes (ranging from 10-28% grade), it'd be more accurate to call this place an adult playground. The Fire & Ice hotel features 11 conference rooms, each overlooking the ski slope. The resort is also home to a ropes course, a rock wall, a beer garden, and a nightclub. Work hard, play hard, right?

Here's the thing about indoor ski and snowboard resorts in the U.S.: They don't exist. So, we wanted to make sure we offered at least one option for everybody in American by selecting a place that is at least open all year. Liberty Mountain doesn't actually feature real snow, but to stay open, this is the closest thing we've got. Lucky for us, it's pretty badass. You'll be riding on Snowflex, a synthetic material that's designed to have the feel of real snow. It's kept lubricated to give that real slip-and-slide feel, and, probably coolest of all, it's cushioned to keep riders safe should they wipe out.

Snowhall offers 620 meters of slopes for skiers and boarders of all ages and skill levels. You can also sled here, if you're not athletically inclined.

Every Freestyle Friday, the Snow Centre changes the setup of its ski and snowboard park, so you're never make the same run twice (in a month). The club also offers freestyle skiing and snowboarding for beginners on Thursdays, with jumps and rails that aren't quite as challenging.

The Germans take their skiing very seriously. Don't believe us? Check out their 640-meter ski slope, the longest in the world. If you're less interested in going down and more interested in getting air, head over to their Fun Park to practice your tricks. And if the lines are too long or you're just sick of falling on your ass, you can always head to the Beergarden and get hammered.

The Snow Dome has a ski slope (170-meter main slope), but it's less of a hardcore ski facility and more of a taste of winter during the warmer months. Want to go tubing? Get after it. Feel like sledding? No problem. Want to pelt your buddies with snowballs until your arm gives out? That's cool, too. Just about any winter activity you can think of (including ice skating) is offered at this U.K. spot. And if you don't want to freeze, they've got you covered with a 25-meter pool.They even tweet out what the layout of the snow course is going to look like that day.

Snow world has two locations in the Netherlands, both of which feature at least three indoor slopes. The largest one, located at the Landgraaf location, is 520 meters long. Both spots also feature massive hotels and fitness centers, in case a day's worth of skiing isn't enough of a workout.

Ski Dubai is the Middle East's first indoor ski resort. Its part of a sprawling complex called PlayMania which is also home to a few bowling alleys, an indoor rock wall, and a 15,000 square meter indoor-outdoor waterpark. And, of course, it watches over the Mall of the Emirates, the ultimate place for excess.
