Kevin Durant shocked kids he’s mentored from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula in Menlo Park, California by offering to pay for the first year of their college tuition.

Durant made the announcement during a Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula event, which ESPN captured in a video. When the kids found out, they cried in amazement; some of them are the first in their families to go to college.

According to the San Francisco Examiner, the 29-year-old has donated more than $13 million to community causes this year.

Durant’s Golden State Warriors teammate Quinn Cook applauded him for his community efforts and dedication to the Washington D.C. area, where they are both from.

“It means a lot to the community,” he said. “It's not just the amount of money that he donated. It's the constant support that he gives to the kids. He's always back, showing his face.” He added, “He's like a superhero—on and off the court—to the kids back home.”
