Remember when all anyone wanted to talk to Russell Westbrook about was Kevin Durant? Ah, those were the days, weren’t they?! Westbrook hated them, but at this point, it sounds like he would gladly go back in time and relive all of the KD questions if it meant that people would stop asking him about racking up so many triple-doubles this season.

On Wednesday night, Westbrook failed to record a triple-double for the third consecutive game after recording seven triple-doubles in a row prior to that. He did score 27 points, grab 6 rebounds, and dish out 5 assists, which would be plenty impressive for most other players, but he didn’t hit the triple-double mark and the Thunder lost to the Jazz 109-89. So after the game, all anyone wanted to talk about was how Westbrook hadn’t earned a triple-double—and it did not sit well with him. He went off about it and told reporters, for what he hopes is the last time, that he doesn’t want to talk triple-doubles anymore.

"Honestly, man, people and this triple-double thing is kind of getting on my nerves," he said. "People think if I don’t get it, it’s like a big thing. When I go get it, it’s a thing. If y’all just let me play…If I get it, I get it. If I don’t, I don’t. It is what it is. I really don’t care. For the 100th time, I don’t care."

Westbrook may not care, but it’s clear the media and NBA fans do. He’s currently averaging 30.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 10.6 assists per game, which puts him on pace to become the first NBA player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double for a season. But just in case you didn’t get the picture after reading the quote above, Westbrook isn’t here for the triple-double questions.

"All I care about is winning, man, honestly," he said. "All the numbers shit don’t mean nothing to me."

It’s hard to blame Westbrook for getting worked up here. After all, the Thunder did get destroyed by the Jazz, so the last thing he probably wanted to talk about was his own stats. But as long as Westbrook continues to average a triple-double, he’s going to have a hard time avoiding questions about it.
