Cam Newton is obviously a very busy man at the moment. There are only about five days remaining before one of the biggest days of his life, and we would imagine that everyone wants a piece of him right now. But last night, the Panthers star reportedly took some time out of his busy schedule to give his autograph to a woman who really needed it.
The woman’s name is Trae Sieczko, and her son Scot was a huge Panthers fan. Unfortunately, Scot passed away in 2014 after battling cancer for about two and a half years. But prior to his death, the 22-year-old decided that he was going to make it his mission to get Newton to autograph his Panthers jersey for him. It’s a mission that his mother decided she was going to carry out for him after he died.
To try and do it, Sieczko contacted Frank Somerville, an anchor at KTVU in Oakland, Calif., on Facebook last week to see if he could help. Somerville didn’t make any promises, but he did share her story on Facebook and asked his followers if anyone could help arrange a meeting between Sieczko and Newton:
It was obviously a long shot. Sieczko lives just two miles from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., but given the fact that this will probably be the busiest week of Newton’s life, the idea of him making time for her seemed unlikely. That is, until a lady who knows the mayor of Santa Clara saw Somerville’s post. She called the mayor who called 49ers CEO Jed York who called someone on the 49ers’ PR staff who called the Panthers who asked Newton if he would be down to autograph Scot’s jersey. And guess what? Newton said yes—and met with Sieczko last night during Super Bowl Opening Night to give her the autograph she has been looking for. You should go ahead and read Somerville’s latest post to hear the whole story:
Sieczko was obviously thrilled after meeting with Newton and posted this message on Facebook thanking everyone who made it happen:
You’ll hear a lot of Cam Newton stories this week, but we’re betting none of them will come close to matching this one. Incredible.
