Not Available Lead

You know that Michael Jordan was a terrific leader when he was a member of the Bulls. You also know that Dennis Rodman did some really off-the-wall stuff when he was MJ's teammate. But do you know just how far MJ used to have to go to lead Rodman?

Last night, Jeremy Piven—who appears on our latest cover, if you haven't already seen—made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He talked to Kimmel about getting the opportunity to hang out on MJ's boat during a recent celebrity golf tournament in the Bahamas. And while he wouldn't go too far in-depth when Kimmel asked him to give the audience a good MJ story, Piven did allude to the fact that MJ told him some pretty crazy Rodman stories. Specifically, he talked about how MJ had to go to great lengths to make sure that Rodman would show up for Chicago's practices back in the 1990s.

"During those years, he had some eccentric characters around him like Dennis Rodman," Piven said. "So, you know, Rodman just kept wanting to go to Vegas and live the dream while they're in the playoffs. And they kept saying, 'We're almost there, brother. Just calm down. Carmen Electra—or your victory lap—is an inch away, but just hold it together.' And MJ had to just go and clean up the mess a lot of times and grab Dennis and pull his large naked body out of a situation and bring him to practice. That's the way life was for them."

Whoa. We knew Mike was a hell of a leader on the court, which is why he's widely considered one of the greatest leaders in NBA history. But if what Piven said is true, who knew he had to go that far off the court to keep teammates like Rodman in check? Yikes.
