Blake Griffin Doesn't Think He Has Any Chance of Winning the MVP Award Over LeBron James or Kevin Durant This Season

He's probably right.

Blake Griffin has been playing some excellent basketball lately. In fact, he's been so good and his numbers have been so impressive that some people out there have started to throw his name around when it comes to the NBA MVP race. But Griffin doesn't think he's an MVP candidate right now. Because despite his success this season, the Clippers forward still thinks the MVP trophy should go to either LeBron James or Kevin Durant.

"I think the MVP race is a two-man race," he said after the Nuggets knocked off the Clippers last night. "The stretch of games that we've played and we've been successful has been a huge team effort. Jamal Crawford was playing out of his mind before he got hurt and guys have stepped up and really done their part. With our team, I don't think it's one guy that's making us go. I genuinely believe it's been a total team effort."

BG is probably right. Even though he's been stellar this season—he's averaging 24.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game right now—he's not going to get many MVP votes over LeBron James or Kevin Durant. But the mere fact that Griffin's name is even in the MVP discussion bodes well for both him and his team. He was really, really, really good before this season. But he's taken a huge leap towards being great this year. And if he continues to improve, there might be an MVP award in his future.
