NFL commissioner Roger Goodell upheldTom Brady's four-game suspension on Tuesday, and once that matter of business was complete, the next step was to secure the safety of his personal property.

Goodell owns a vacation home in Maine, you see, which is Patriots country as far as the NFL is concerned. And while he might not have been expecting fans in New England to do anything crazy, he wasn't going to take any chances.

The NFL contacted Scarborough police on Tuesday, according to a report from David Hench of The Portland Press Herald

“They did reach out and let us know about the decision and that it might not be popular,” said Scarborough Police Chief Robbie Moulton. “We’re aware of the situation and will be patrolling the area, certainly."

This seems like a healthy dose of paranoia being displayed by the commissioner. Patriots fans are among the league's most spoiled, when considering the team has won four Super Bowls over the last 12 years, has made it to the championship game on two additional occasions, and contends for the title on an annual basis.

There are certainly extreme factions within every fan base, so perhaps it's better to be safe than sorry. But given New England's consistent level of success, Patriots fans are likely to already be over the decision. In fact, they probably expect another run to the Super Bowl, despite their star quarterback being sidelined for the first four games of the season.
