Cristiano Ronaldo and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez are mourning the loss of their newborn son.
The Manchester United star took to social media on Monday afternoon to announce the tragic death of their baby boy. Georgina recently gave birth to twins.
“It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away,” the couple wrote in a note shared on Instagram. “It is the greatest pain that any parent can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.”
The 37-year-old continued, “We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly as for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”
The Guardian and Page Six claim the baby’s death occurred in childbirth; the couple’s message does not indicate this.
Shortly after Ronaldo broke the news on social media, Manchester United took to Twitter to share its condolences.
“Your pain is our pain @Cristiano,” the Premier League club wrote. “Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time.”
After beginning their relationship in 2016, Cristiano and Georgina welcomed their first child together, daughter Alana Martina, in 2017. Ronaldo is also a father to twins Eva Maria and Mateo, 4, and Cristiano Jr., 11.
The tragic news arrives several months after Ronaldo and Rodriguez announced in October 2021 that they were expecting twins. Back in December, Ronaldo shared an Instagram post in which he revealed the couple was going to have a boy and a girl.
“Where life begins and love never ends,” he captioned the clip.
