The Cleveland Cavaliers somehow stole Game 1 of their second-round series with the Toronto Raptors, 113-112, with an overtime win Tuesday. The Raps led practically wire to wire, but they choked when the game was on the line, delighting their doubters on Twitter.
After the game, however, Raptors coach Dwane Casey, a candidate for Coach of the Year, made it clear that he hasn't lost any confidence in his squad. "We're the better team," he said in a post-game press conference.
Casey said the Raptors really have no one to blame but themselves.
"A lot of things we did to ourselves," he said. "Nothing special, nothing that we didn't expect, some uncharacteristic things that we missed, some shots we missed, I thought that was the difference in the game."
Fred VanVleet missed a potential game-winning three-pointer on the Raptors' final offensive possession.
"I think we're a better team," Casey added. "We just didn't make the shots down the stretch. I know it sounds simplistic, but we had our open looks, had our opportunities that we didn't cash in on. And some other things we can clean up defensively, that we can do a better job with also."
Game 2 of Raptors-Cavs is set for Thursday at 6 p.m. EST. It will air on ESPN.
