Given A. The amount of hype Williamson built up in his year at Duke, and B. That sports fans like to watch good players, this announcement was not exactly welcome news.

Wow. Torn meniscus for Zion. Out 6-8 weeks. I guess the Internet rumors were true. https://t.co/Sml1A0sQZo

Zion Williamson will be the 4th No. 1 overall pick to miss the season opener of his first season in the last 25 seasons (@EliasSports)

Over the last 10 years, only 3 No. 1 picks have missed 20+ games in their first season (Fultz, Simmons & A. Bennett) pic.twitter.com/eRL2yT5Cdc

Pelicans fans after finding out that Zion really is Greg Oden 2.0 https://t.co/4NA0q9SILV

You mean Greg Oden?! https://t.co/I5s2CMt4ca

The injury, in tandem with a sprain he suffered at Duke after his sneaker broke, and a dinged up left knee that cost him all but eight minutes of this year's Summer League, also brought about unfavorable comparisons to Greg Oden from Twitter pessimists. This led to a brief second where the 2007 first overall choice got listed in the trending section.

Not a good omen. Greg Oden 2.0? Sorry but.... https://t.co/1DD1X6S148

A high flyer who plays above the rim can’t exist in the NBA at 285lbs. I love the kid and how he plays but it’s not sustainable. He’s the 2nd heaviest in the league and he might end up a bust (Greg Oden). I hope I’m wrong but at 18 with this many injuries it’s not looking good.

Seems like an overreaction.
