Adam Schefter reports that Julio Jones and Atlanta have finalized a multi-year contract extension that will make him the highest-paid player at his position. The three-year deal is worth $66 million, with 97 percent of that guaranteed.

Atlanta and Pro-Bowl WR Julio Jones just reached agreement on a landmark three-year, $66 million extension that includes $66 million guaranteed - $64 million of which is due at signing, sources tell @mortreport and me. It ties together the two sides for the next five seasons.
On Julio Jones’ three-year extension, 97 percent of the deal is guaranteed at signing; the previous high guarantee at signing for a non-QB was Trey Flowers at 74 percent.

This will keep the 30-year-old under contract with Atlanta for the next five years, which pushes him toward indeed remaining a Falcon "forever."

Despite the stakes, Jones' contract negotiations with the Falcons was largely drama free. Although nothing had been confirmed going into training camp, he elected not to hold out of team activities because of the "trust" he has in owner Arthur Blank.

Jones has been among the NFL's elite most of his career, becoming a Pro Bowler six times in his eight years as a pro. He led the league in receiving yards (1,677) last year.
