Rhian Brewster has opened up on the wave of talented young English players moving abroad to play first team football.

Brewster is part of an exciting new generation of young Lions already making their mark on the world stage, having been an integral part of the FIFA U17 World Cup campaign where he scored successive hat-tricks against USA and Brazil in the tournament's latter stages.

In an interview with VERSUS, Brewster opened up on why it's becoming more acceptable for young English players to choose transfers to Bundesliga or Serie A:

"I don’t know – maybe back in the day English players were given more opportunities at their clubs but with the way the Premier League is now, it can be more difficult for clubs to give youngsters a chance. I think these players are looking at moving abroad to get some experience and show their ability, before moving back to the Premier League. The Premier League is still the best league in the world and everyone wants to play here. If we have to leave and prove ourselves, I don’t think we’re afraid to do that."

Last year, Jadon Sancho made headlines when he left Manchester City to join Borussia Dortmund and since, players including Ademola Lookman, Reece Oxford and Chris Willock have all left Premier League clubs to join teams abroad, either on loan or permanent deals.

Brewster's interview arrives ahead of a season where he's expected to break into the Liverpool first team, and Brewster provided some fascinating insights into his breakthrough year, including his time at the U17 World Cup, training with Liverpool and – most importantly – the problems he's experienced with racism in his short time playing football.
