NFL Fans Aren't as Convinced as Jerry Rice That He'd Still Be an 'Explosive' Receiver Today

Jerry Rice is one of the greatest wide receivers—if not the G.O.A.T.—in NFL history. Rice retired in 2005, but the San Francisco 49ers legend still thinks he could play in the league and "beat up on some defenses."

Jerry Rice is one of the greatest wide receivers—if not the G.O.A.T.—in NFL history. Rice retired in 2005, but the San Francisco 49er still thinks he could play in the league.

Rice, 55, participated in this year's edition of ESPN's Body Issue.

In the interview, he shared this nugget:

I still feel like today, if I wanted to come back to football and play football, I could do it, at the age of 55. I'm one of those guys that I still believe that if I wanted to, I could come back, catch over 80 balls and really be productive on the field…I think I'm still explosive, and I think I still can beat up on some defenses.

Naturally, people were dubious he could pull it off. Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri is 44, but he's a kicker. Tom Brady is 40.

Jerry Rice got CTE
Tom Brady needs to retire, he's making the old folks home go wild
That dude is trippin lmao
Pull up the tape of his time in Seattle. That’ll bring him back to reality in a heartbeat
Jerry Rice said he could catch 80 passes in the nfl today. He’s 55 and clearly has CTE lol

Rice last played in the NFL for the Seahawks in 2004. He totaled 362 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
