On Sunday night, hip-hop mogul Diddy made waves when he announced that he wanted to buy the Carolina Panthers. The team’s current owner Jerry Richardson recently announced he plans to sell the team after this season. The NFL is currently investigating Richardson after he was accused of sexual misconduct.

This picture was taken back in 2003. This is God’s work. It’s time!!

ATTN all @NFL owners, it’s time for diversity!! It’s time for Black ownership!!

The time is now. Let’s make it happen!! pic.twitter.com/zex7LTZ8mn

Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick added his name to the mix, claiming he wants to join the ownership group and help Diddy buy the team.

Could Diddy make it happen? It wouldn’t be easy, but it’s not an impossibility.

So what does the Panthers’ star player, quarterback Cam Newton, think about all this hub-bub of the icon perhaps buying the team? Newton was asked about it during the team’s Wednesday press conference.

"I was just like everybody else. It was amusing," Newton said. "Obviously he’s a person that has a lot of influence in the culture and it was just cool. I didn’t know what to expect and I still don’t know what to expect. I feel like a lot of people, you don’t know whether they are serious or are they not serious. How is it going to play out? I don’t even know how you’re going to sell something of this magnitude. So I’m just going to stay in my lane and worry about throwing touchdowns on Sunday, and let the rest handle itself."

Diddy has said he would sign Kaepernick if he bought the team. Newton said he would be cool with it.

"That’s cool. I’m cool with it. Whatever happens, happens," Newton said. "They say two things happen in competition, you either get better or get worse. I’m all for it. But as far as a person that I’ve always looked up to, Puff Daddy, Diddy, whatever you want to call him, for that even being mentioned, it’s pretty cool in itself."
