It usually takes most teams a few years before they decide to build a statue for one of their retired greats. Shaquille O’Neal has been retired for five years now, and the Lakersjust decided that they’re going to build a statue for him. But apparently, the Colts aren’t going to waste any time when it comes to building a statue for Peyton Manning:
Manning just retired last week—as a member of the Broncos, no less—but today, Colts owner Jim Irsay held a joint press conference with Manning to announce that the team will start building a statue for him soon outside of Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis:
The Colts are also going to retire Manning’s No. 18:
That was quick. Maybe they just wanted to beat the Broncos to the punch?
