The entire country of Australia have almost unanimously agreed that the 2015 NRL Grand Final was the most exciting in recent history. For two Cowboys fans though, Johnathan Thurston's game-winning field goal was only the beginning of a memorable night.
As Townsville erupted in celebration, many locals took to the central strip of Flinders Street to celebrate with fellow fans, as the Cowboys' long-awaited maiden premiership released the a tension and angst of a twenty-year dry spell. At 2.25am, Townsville police spotted one couple copulating publicly, perhaps inspired by seeing almost every Cowboy completing their victory lap with a baby in hand.
Despite the public sex, police were otherwise happy with the crowd. “Flinders street was at capacity, all the venues were full, there were a lot of people on the streets and as far as behaviour goes, we are quite happy,” Inspector Steve O’Connell said.
