Christmas just came a little bit late for all of the hopeless Jets fans out there.

For the fourth straight year, the Jets failed to make the playoffs this season. They went 4-12 on the year and didn't look anything like a team that's ready to make a serious run at a Super Bowl anytime in the near future. So a short time ago, Jets owner Woody Johnson revealed that he has fired head coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik in order to clear space for a new regime in New York.

"Both Rex and John made significant contributions to the team," Johnson said in a statement, "and they have my appreciation and gratitude for their efforts and commitment. Over the years, Rex brought the Jets a bold confidence and a couple of great postseason runs, which all of us will remember…We will consider all options to improve the Jets. Getting the Jets back on track is my top priority, and today's decisions are important steps towards achieving our goals."

Johnson is now going to rely on former NFL general managers Charley Casserly and Ron Wolf to help him find a new head coach and GM. Ryan leaves the Jets after assembling a 46-50 record over six seasons.
