"You know, this NBA game is taking way too long," said no one ever.

But despite this, it sounds like the league is going to seriously consider reducing the length of NBA games from 48 minutes down to 44 minutes. And they're going to prove just how serious they're taking this idea by testing it out during a preseason game between the Nets and Celtics on Sunday. The two teams are going to play a game that will feature 11-minutes quarters instead of 12-minute quarters. It will also feature just two mandatory timeouts during each quarter as opposed to three.

The league will not hold any 44-minute games once the regular season starts. But they are going to see what they can learn from holding a singular 44-minute game and observe how it changes the flow of an NBA game. And the thought is that, if the NBA does eventually adopt 44-minute games moving forward, it could impact the total number of minutes that players are playing each season, which could reduce injuries, keep guys fresher, and benefit the entire NBA.

Do you think this is a good idea?
