One of the effects of Ray Rice's domestic violence case is how it raised one question: How the hell are the 49ers' Ray McDonald and Panthers' Greg Hardy still playing? Both players were active for Week 1 despite having their own domestic violence cases just this summer.
Hardy is a bigger deal because he's been convicted of beating and threatening to kill his girlfriend in a May incident. There's still no punishment from the NFL, but there is from the Panthers organization; he's been deactivated less than two hours before today's game against the Lions. Hardy is working on appealing the case.
McDonald is still active, however. He's been charged in a felony domestic violence case against his pregnant fiancee. That case is still pending and the 49ers are waiting for "due process [to] take its course."
