European Police Want a Kill Switch in Every New Car

How would you feel if, somewhere, there was a person employed by the police with the power to dead your car with the push of a button? That's what the European Network of Law Enforcement Technologies wants to see become possible throughout Europe.

The network has been working in secret (not anymore) to develop a kill switch device to be installed in every new car in Europe. With it police would be able to cut the fuel supply and kill the ignition to end chases or immobilize a stolen car.

As you can imagine, Europeans probably won't be too receptive to this. In the US OnStar has offered a similar service with the key difference being that users have to opt in. If the EU goes public with concrete plans for a mandatory kill switch, expect there to be backlash. (Except in France. They'll just let it happen).
