For this week's Throwback Thursday installment, Highsnobiety looked back on Supreme New York's first sneaker collaboration with Vans on the Old Skool.
"The Old Skool is iconic, classic skate. In 1996, it was one of the best shoes offered by Vans and really stood the test of time," said Supreme founder James Jebbia.
That's exactly why the storied skate brand chose the Old Skool as its first canvas, dropping a series of colorways in white, grey, and camo. The concept of multiple colorways in a single collab is a tactic that Supreme employs to this very day — look no further than the upcoming Air Jordan V collection.
Back in May, former Supreme creative director Brendon Babenzien told us that one of the first tasks with the brand was helping to design the Old Skool collab. "It was just one of the first things that James [Jebbia] asked me to do. He said, 'Color some Vans.' That might have been one of the first things I worked on there."
Jumping forward to today, Supreme has just launched its latest collaboration featuring two Doc Martens silhouettes. As usual, they're already sold out, but you can try your luck on eBay here.
