Sneakers: Vans

Vans have been around longer than most sneakers, but the resurgence of the Fairfax streetwear style has been brought back to mainstream levels thanks to players like Tyler, the Creator. The Odd Future (OFWGKTA) frontman has been shocking the world on stages from Twitter to talk shows like Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and you'll be hard-pressed to find him in something besides some Vans or better yet, the Supreme x Vans collabs. Souped up.

Sneakers: Nike Foamposites, Nike Sportswear Retros

Wale seems to get more hate than any other celebrity these days, but it's hard to argue that the DMV NT'er turned MC'er hasn't had something to do with the Foamposite craze that has struck the sneaker game. Since the late '90s, the stereotype was that 'heads from DC went in on Foamposites more than any other area in the States. Wale took his lyrical repertoire from hometown to every town and now Foams sell like they're Jordans. Let 'em hate Wale, keep doing your thing.

There is usually quite a separation between hip hop and rock n' roll cultures. Despite the efforts of Lil Wayne to cross over to rock (we'll let you decide whether he was successful or not), Pete Wentz has taken sneakers that may have never seen the light of day in front of head-banging crowds to a new audience. Wentz has made a habit of wearing Supra and Air Yeezys on the regular, a far stretch from the Chuck-loving party animals that usually rock the world with guitar feedback and reverb. He's even known to throw on some Js every now and then, which of course seems to catch the eye of sneakerheads, who may have never known of him or Fall Out Boy otherwise. It goes both ways.

A$AP Rocky has been coined the "next big thing" by more journalists than we can count. He graced our cover recently in a story that reiterates his "don't give a f*ck" attitude but seeing the footwear choices he makes, he obviously cares about his sneakers, which is something we can relate to. Rocky's style ranges from classic Jordans to designer labels you're sure to mis-pronounce but there's no doubt you'll be watching what his choices are as he continues to blow up.

Lil Wayne may have the most un-traditional style we've ever seen but there is no doubt, he hepled put Supra on the map. We may never rock snowboard boots courtside like Weezy, but he's definitely made us take a closer look at the Supra Skytop. Not to mention the over-the-top designs from Jeremy Scott's adidas Originals line that Wayne helped take from absurdity to possibility. But for everyone's sake, fur-covered snowboard boots is a step past where the line should be drawn.

King James has taken signature sneakers to a new level. The Nike LeBron line has transcended nearly every aspect of sneakers, from PEs to on-court general releases and from countless crazy colorways to one of the most-worn basketball sneakers on the streets. We have a feeling that now with his first ring in hand, LeBron is just getting started with his future sneakers. (How many custom "LeBronold Palmer" lows have there been already?)

Sneakers: Timberlands, Air Jordans, Air Force 1s

Jay-Z may have made the Yankee fitted more famous than the Yankees can, but his influence extends far beyond that. Nobody has a more versatile all-black-everything wardrobe than Hov and, taking it back a few, Jay pushed Timbs and white-on-whites like nobody's business. Now we see him standing on the roof overlooking the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn wearing Air Jordan VIs and can't help but thing, damn, he's taking this to a whole new level.

Reebok Back. Hate all you want, but Reebok has stepped its game up since the brand brought on Swizz Beatz to make things happen. Remember those leaked samples of Kamikazes you saw? Guess who didn't let that happen and is bringing back the real-deal retro version in 2013? Swizz. There really hasn't been this level of passion at Reebok since the days AI first crossed up MJ and Swizz going hard at the Swoosh on his Instagram on the regular, makes new cats take notice and old 'heads feel like it's the early '90s again. Even before the craze of the Nike Air Yeezy, Kanye has been a style-preneur. Whether it was Aqua Air Jordan VIIIs or Infrared Air Jordan VIs, Yeezy brought new life into music and sneakers. Then he created the biggest craze to hit sneakers since MJ laced up his OG Jordans back in '85 by wearing the never-seen-before Air Yeezy to the Grammys. We've never seen sneakers so hyped before. Then Kanye went and did it again with the Yeezy 2. That sh*t cray.
