The Nike Air Rift is not for everybody.

The 1996 silhouette was one of the first Nike shoes to champion the idea of natural motion, an idea that would become much more prominent for the brand in the next decade via the Nike Free line. More specifically, the shoe was inspired by barefoot runners in Kenya, and has outsole traction that references that country's Great Rift Valley fault line. The shoe also launched in a colorway pulled directly from Kenya's flag.

The Nike Air Rift's return will begin on April 27 with the release of original colorways. A later sneaker release date of May 15 will bring new colorways for the Rift.
