Today, Nike and Major League Baseball (MLB) officially unveiled their brand new uniforms that players will begin wearing during the 2020 season, and so far it's generated a lot of mixed reactions from baseball fans.
Back in January, it was announced that Nike will become the official uniform and footwear supplier of the MLB with a 10-year deal set to begin during this upcoming season. This will include the Swoosh supplying on-field uniforms, training apparel, as well as outerwear to the 30 teams in the league.
"We’re excited to kick off our partnership with Major League Baseball with the unveil of next season’s uniforms," says Hal Melhart, Sr. Product Line Manager for the Nike Diamond. "Each franchise has a deeply personal history, with a visual identity that continues in this update. In the future, we look forward to preserving this integrity while still bringing more of Nike’s creativity to uniform designs, as we build energy around the game for its players and its fans.”
Most of the commotion is centered around the Swoosh embroidery found at the front of the jersey, which is the first time that any form of branding has been featured on the front of the MLB uniforms. In previous seasons, the manufacturer’s logo was found near the cuff of the left sleeve. Read on to see what fans are saying about the upcoming Nike MLB uniforms debuting in 2020.
