The Kanye Effect is real, and here are some facts to back it up. Before he wore the all-white adidas Energy Boost ESMs during two performances last weekend, there was a full-size run of the sneakers available on adidas' website as well as other retailers. Now they're sold out.
Where did the other pairs go? EBay.
Currently, there are pairs of the aforementioned sneaker — in size 9 and 9.5 — listed for $1,000, with one seller asking $1,150 for a size 8. Other auctions have these Boosts with Buy It Now prices of $650 and $400. For comparison, the retail price of the Energy Boost ESM is $160.
None of these pairs have sold, though. The most someone has spent on this model via an eBay auction is $153. At this point, these large payouts for something that was literally sitting on shelves is wishful thinking.
