The Nike x Undercover Gyakusou is back for the Holiday 2013 Collection, set to launch in October.

With an announcement this morning highlighting pieces like a softshell jacket, lightweight jacket, aeroloft vest, Dri-Fit thermal top and long-sleeve tees, this collection focuses more on simple separates than previous collections. Past seasons have depended on Jun's personal experiences as a runner, whether it's his zen-like attitude to running or his conceptual use of transitional pieces. Last spring, jackets transitioned to vests for runners avoiding the early morning chill while pleated skirts liberated women tired of limited options. This season, the focus seems to dwell a bit more on the monochromatic color scheme, especially footwear as the Nike LunarGlide+ 5 and LunarSpider R3 redone in beautiful hues (shown above).

This is slightly disappointing as past Gyakusou collections pushed the boundaries of technical design a bit more. At first glance this collection is missing the nuances that made past Nike x Undercover Gyakusou pieces worth the $200+ price tag.  Great design collaborations push beyond tight fits and spandex-like textures. Ms. McCartney pushes the envelope on volume and texture for adidas, resulting in performance gear that transcends the product's intended purpose.

What do you think? Is this all you've ever wanted in a holiday collection or has Nike missed the mark on this one?
