Over the past five years, Timothée Chalamet has established himself as the hottest young actor in Hollywood, catapulting into the mainstream on the strength of career-making roles in movies such as 2017’s Call Me by Your Name and last year’s Dune.
In a new interview with British Vogue, Chalamet revealed the career advice Leonardo DiCaprio gave him: “No hard drugs and no superhero movies.”
Chalamet, who starred alongside DiCaprio in Adam McKay’s 2021 Netflix comedy Don’t Look Up, previously mentioned the advice last year, in an interview with Time, but didn’t drop Leo’s name.
“One of my heroes—I can’t say who or he’d kick my ass—he put his arm around me the first night we met and gave me some advice,” Chalamet told Time in October 2021, before sharing DiCaprio’s motto.
Next year should be a big one for Chalamet, as the 26-year-old he actor will star as Willy Wonka in the upcoming Warner Bros. prequel film Wonka. Scheduled to hit theaters in March 2023, the film is set to follow a young Wonka before he opens his chocolate factory. Along with Chalamet, the cast includes Keegan Michael-Key, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, and Olivia Colman.
While speaking with British Vogue, Chalamet revealed he has seven musical numbers in Wonka. “This movie is so sincere, it’s so joyous,” he said.
After Wonka, Chalamet will reprise his role as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Two, which will hit theaters in November 2023.
