Julia Roberts has starred in major films like Eat Pray Love, Erin Brockovich, Pretty Woman and one of Barry Jenkins' favorites, Notting Hill. But the veteran actress will be tackling television next in the Amazon Prime psychological thriller series, Homecoming.
TV used to have a stigma of being lesser-than for actors. That is, before Netflix, HBO, and AMC revamped the medium. Now, several A-list movie actors are joining in the television game or choosing to go back-and-forth between the two. During a Television Critics Association's summer press tour, Roberts said "there isn't a distinction anymore" between TV and film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"I didn't think small-screen [vs.] big screen...My TV is very big!" joked Roberts, who's starring in the aforementioned project from the mind of Mr. Robot's Sam Esmail. "With Sam, we were so excited to collaborate on this and see what we could do with it and what you can do with more time to shoot and more time to unravel things for people. It seemed like a great opportunity."
As The Hollywood Reporter notes, The series is based on a popular podcast of the same name which follows a caseworker working to unravel a mystery at a secret government facility.
"Everything is good; the bar is so high," said Roberts, referring to the numerous shows out now. "For me, it's nice to bring something into people's homes. We're like a delivery service, delivering entertainment right to your doorstep."
Homecoming, which also stars Roberts' My Best Friend's Wedding co-star, Dermot Mulroney, is slated to arrive on Amazon's streaming service on Nov. 2.
