It got too real for some viewers. The opening scene for the film adaptation of Stephen King's novel was not for the faint of heart, as it showed a young child, Georgie, being dismembered.
Now, the creators are giving fans a more positive way to settle into the horror film that revolves around a clown, Pennywise, who eats children's fear. While some filmmakers plot out alternative endings, It's creators decided to create an alternate opening, above, where Georgie gets to live.
In the original, Georgie's paper sailboat falls into the sewer where he fatally meets Pennywise, who holds the sailboat as bait. But in the new opening, Georgie escapes death and doesn't get sucked into the clown's infamous lair. Instead, he hilariously is able to snatch his sailboat away and skip off down the street. "Oh, shit," says Pennywise when he realizes he's failed.
And fans are heading to Twitter to show their appreciation for the surprise scene.
The new scene is available as an extra on the DVD/Blu-ray release. There's also another, more sinister deleted scene, if you dare. (And if so, be warned, the rest of the movie does not get easier to watch.)
It was previously adapted into a 1990 miniseries. It: Chapter Two is scheduled to be released in fall 2019.
