Guardians of the Galaxy star Zoe Saldana is "very proud" of the Disney team for reinstating director James Gunn, who was temporarily removed from the third entry in the franchise following the resurfacing of old tweets.

In an interview with New York Daily News that also saw some reliably vague Endgame bits, Saldana shared her thoughts on Gunn's return.

"I was very proud of Disney and all of the executives there," Saldana said. "They're sending a very strong message that, yes, accountability is important. It is a must. We're not going to surrender that moving forward, but when the opportunity presents itself where it's just the first step, redemption must be the second step."

In March, Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr. broke the news that Gunn's return had actually been decided by Marvel and Disney powers months ago. In a subsequent statement on the move, Gunn said he was "tremendously grateful" for the support and said he would "continue to work at being the best human being I can be."

At one point, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was expected to drop in 2020. As it stands now, that release window is expected to hold. That same year, Saldana will appear in the sequel to James Cameron's Avatar sequel. In an Empire chat back in February, Cameron confirmed that the performance-capture moments of the shoot (which also includes Avatar 3) have been completed. The "pesky" live-action sequences, however, still had another five months of production to go at the time.
