With Once Upon a Time in Hollywoodnow a little over a month away from its wide release, the chatter surrounding another Quentin Tarantino project is starting to gain new traction.
As outlined in a new Empire x Tarantino feature, the director's long-teased possible foray into matters of Star Trek is currently being "worked on by a group of writers." Speaking on the current status of the project, Tarantino suggested his currently busy promo schedule has prevented him from giving his thoughts on the current script.
'There's a script that exists for it now," Tarantino told the publication, which is going all out this month with Hollywood-themed cover variants. "I need to weigh in on it, but I haven't been able to do that yet." And to quell any fears of Tarantino being forced into the creative confines of PG-13 nonsense, the director confirmed that no such restrictions would be taking place as long as he remains involved.
"It's an R-rated movie," Tarantino said. "If I do it, it'll be R-rated."
As you may or may not recall, franchise star Zachary Quinto recently expressed stokedness regarding the possibility of a Tarantino-driven entry in the series.
"I'm thrilled that we might have the opportunity to work with him and see what he would do with us in this universe," Quinto told USA Today last summer. "It's going to be an R-rated version of Star Trek, which would be the first (in) the movies, and that's exciting." Quinto also teased that, should the Tarantino project make it to the screen, it may very well go down as his final Spock appearance due to it feeling "like an incredibly complete experience."
