No offense, but your lifetime achievement awards collection doesn't have shit on Morgan "God" Freeman's. The Story of God host is now set to bag yet another lifetime achievement honor from the super cool interest group AARP, following previous honors from the American Film Institute and President Barack Obama.
In a reliably hilarious statement to the Hollywood Reporter Thursday, Freeman slyly bragged about his increasingly crowded awards collection. "At a certain point in life, if you've had some success, awards start to fall from the sky," Freeman said of being honored with the Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award. "But this one really means something. I started my movie career at 50 and some of the best years happened since then."
Freeman won't be an official AARP award recipient until the big Beverly Hills gala next year, but that's probably just fine with Freeman given his already stacked career. Freeman's role as Eddie "Scrap-Iron" Dupris in Clint Eastwood's 2004 film Million Dollar Baby earned him the Best Supporting Actor distinction at that year's Oscars ceremony. Driving Miss Daisy, The Shawshank Redemption, Invictus, and Street Smart also earned Freeman Academy Awards nominations.
The only god I will acknowledge will next appear in Going in Style, directed by Garden State's Zach Braff. Freeman will be joined by Michael Caine and Alan Arkin as three retired dudes who decide that robbing a bank is a perfectly reasonable idea because, hey, why not? The comedy is currently slated to hit theaters April 7, 2017.
