'Jeopardy!' Contestant Shamed After Mistaking Janet Jackson for Ariana Grande

And this isn't the first time something of this caliber has gone down this week.

This hasn't been a good week for game show contestants aiming to proving basic music history expertise on broadcast television.

"As the recipient of the 2018 Icon Award, she took 'Control' and took to the stage in her first live TV performance in nearly a decade," Jeopardy! host and all-around icon Alex Trebek told contestants on Wednesday's show, which should have been more than enough to signal that the answer was Janet Jackson.

As ensuing roastings made clear, however, one contestant who was quick to chime in unfortunately did so with an answer that was superbly incorrect: Ariana Grande. This resulted in a loss of $800 and incalculable cred.

They just showed a video of Janet Jackson dancing and this dude said "who is Ariana Grande?" #Jeopardy pic.twitter.com/ttOxTZ7hA7

Okay Sarah, at least you got Janet Jackson when other dude said Ariana Grande but we haven't forgotten about the Chaka Khan incident. #jeopardy pic.twitter.com/iG4rAborLL

Amazingly, in terms of flabbergasting wrongness, this is actually quite comparable with the other recent Jeopardy! faux pas in which a contestant somehow confused Chaka Khan for Shaka Zulu before later making unintentional franchise history by becoming the first contestant to ever explain why she wrote down the wrong question for the Final Jeopardy! round.

Get it together, Jeopardy! contestants. This shit is embarrassing.
