Gigi Hadid Lamely Apologizes for Mocking Melania Trump at American Music Awards

Gigi Hadid walks back her Melania Trump impression at the AMAs by issuing a handwritten apology.

Remember that time Alec Baldwin apologized for mocking the President-elect on Saturday Night Live? Hmm. Yeah. Me either. But what about that time Laura Benanti said she was sorry for parodying Melania Trump on Stephen Colbert's Late Show? I'm honestly having trouble remembering both of these apologies, perhaps because Baldwin and Benanti already got the following memo: Shit like that doesn't really require an apology.

That's Gigi Hadid, walking back her American Music Awards impression of Melania Trump by offering a handwritten apology. "I apologize to anyone that I offended and have only the best wishes for our country," Hadid wrote. In addition to being depressingly lame, Hadid's reversal also includes phrases like "no bad intent" and "respectfully."

"This is my Melania Trump impression," Hadid said alongside AMAs co-host Jay Pharoah. "I love my husband, President Barack Obama, and our children, Sasha and Malia." Pharoah then declared Hadid's impression "spot on" before launching into the rest of the broadcast, which also included a more pointed protest from Green Day during their performance of "Bang Bang."

Will they too be issuing a handwritten apology? Fuck no.
