Hollywood has always had a reputation for being a bit off-kilter. Given the demands of stardom and a career based almost entirely on appearance, it's no surprise that some of its finest on-screen beauties either begin to unravel in front of the public eye or lose themselves altogether. From young starlets struggling with drug addiction and jailtime to legends wading through multiple marriages and secret pregnancies, here are the 50 Most Infamous Actresses of All Time.
RELATED: 25 Young Actors to Keep an Eye On
50. Ellen Barkin
Most Infamous Moment: Barkin is known for her profanity-laced Twitter rants.
Ellen Barkin has built a reputation on being one of the most outspoken and uncensored actresses in Hollywood. She's called the right wing "pro-murder, evil assholes and scary ugly," and has stated that FOX News correspondents are "liars," in addition to her regular Twitter rants.
Not to mention, she's dating her Diner director's son; she's 57, he's 26, and they moved in together when he was 24. Come to think of it, she filmed Diner before her boyfriend was even born.
49. Mischa Barton
Most Infamous Moment: In 2007, Barton was arrested for driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and a controlled substance, and driving without a valid license.
Barton is a prime example of someone getting too into character. Much like troubled Marissa on The O.C., Barton dealt with her own drugs and drinking issues. Not to mention popping up on TMZ a few times a year when she's caught smoking a J.
48. Jean Harlow
Most Infamous Moment: Harlow's husband, 22-years her senior, was found shot dead, drenched in perfume.
Harlow rose to fame towards the end of the silent film era as the sexpot "Blonde Bombshell." She was famous for her sexy roles and her quips about her own sexuality, such as, "I like to wake up each morning feeling a new man." After a few months of her marriage to MGM executive Paul Bern, he was found dead with a suicide note describing his impotence which he found too embarrassing to live with.
47. Roseanne Barr
Most Infamous Moment: She famously angered America when she desecrated the national anthem at a San Diego Padres game in 1990.
Barr has always walked a fine line between observational comedy and shock comedy, that sometimes doesn't fly. For example, not taking the national anthem seriously, or wearing a Hitler mustache and eating cookies out of the oven.
46. Yasmine Bleeth
Most Infamous Moment: In 2002, she was sentenced to two years of probation and 100 hours of community service for possessing cocaine and driving while impaired.
This former Baywatch babe and BASEketball star once seemed poised to be a fixture on television and in film for years to come. Then she developed a nasty cocaine habit. Bleeth was once quoted as saying "Getting addicted to coke was almost like falling in love. It became my boyfriend, my best friend and my family." For Yasmine's sake, we're glad the whirlwind romance has ran it's course.
45. Tracey Gold
Most Infamous Moment: Gold battled anorexia for years and plummeted down to a shocking 80 pounds.
The Growing Pains star learned about dieting during her days as a child on set, and most of her issues stemmed from trying to control her maturing. When she was 11 and diagnosed with the early signs of anorexia, she returned to a normal weight. After returning to filming after a hiatus, she was the butt of fat jokes. She developed a dangerous eating disorder and was suspended from the show because of her skeletal figure.
44. Clara Bow
Most Infamous Moment: The original "It" girl was also the original gossip rag's favorite subject. Publications claimed she had public sex with men, women, threesomes and, when no human was around, dogs.
While most of the rumors of Bow are not true, they were still printed in major publications. The famous silent-era star did like men, and had many "engagements," including post-game parties for the whole USC football team, but most of the publications were just slut-shaming. Bow went from the most beloved starlet to Hollywood's biggest gossip topic.
43. Mary Kate Olsen
Most Infamous Moment: Two days before her 18th birthday in 2004, she checked into rehab for her battle with anorexia nervosa.
We literally watched Mary-Kate Olsen grow up from a Full House baby to a young billionaire. So it was a shock to start witnessing the pressure of Hollywood began catching up with her in 2004, when she appeared sickly thin during her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. She's since sought help and made a full recovery. Now, she's dating the Olivier Sarkozy, the brother of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy who's twice her age (and height).
42. Madonna
Most Infamous Moment: Madonna's video for "Justify My Love" was banned from MTV due to nudity, S&M roleplay, and for it's gay and lesbian undertones.
Ever since she was humping a stage and singing “Like A Virgin” while wearing a wedding dress on the 1984 VMA stage, Madonna’s been an infamous cultural icon. The Evita actress has reinvented herself time and time again. However, each incarnation of Madonna has one thing in common, they’re all undoubtedly controversial.
41. Brigitte Nielsen
Most Infamous Moment: Prior to checking herself into rehab in 2007, Nielsen had a highly-publicized relationship with none other than Mr. Handsome himself, Public Enemy's Flavor Flav. Yeah boi!
Brigitte Nielson, the statuesque, Danish model-turned-actress who's starred in films like Rocky IV and Red Sonja, is no stranger to controversy. Aside from her stint on Celebrity Rehab, Brigitte's marriage to Sylvester Stallone ended after a few months due to her infidelity, and just recently she revealed that she once had an affair with Arnold Schwarzenegger. She must have a thing for The Expendables. Watch out, Jason Statham.
40. Zhang Ziyi
Most Infamous Moment: In May of 2012, Zhang was accused of prostituting herself out to wealthy Chinese businessmen, earning at least $100 million in the process.
Zhang Ziyi, who's starred in films like TMNT and Rush Hour 2, just recently earned herself a spot on this list. Earlier this year, this pristine beauty was accused of getting paid millions of dollars to have sexual relations with several high-ranking Chinese politicians. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Life?
39. Tara Reid
Most Infamous Moment: In late 2004, photos surfaced of Reid on the red carpet at P. Diddy's 35th birthday party. She looked great, except for her exposed and recently augmented left breast.
With her Playboy spreads, red carpet nip slips, TMZ covered drunken antics and subsequent stints in rehab, we can assure you that this infamous actress is not the mild-mannered virgin we met in the first American Pie film.
38. Sharon Tate
Most Infamous Moment: Followers of Charles Manson murdered her in her home.
Tate was one of the most promising actresses of her time, though she was often written off as just a beauty. While she was eight months pregnant with director Roman Polanski's child, followers of Charles Manson brutally murdered her and four others in her home. Some say the reason was that she was randomly selected, others have more elaborate theories.
37. Elizabeth Taylor
Most Infamous Moment: She married and divorced Richard Burton twice between 1964 to 1976.
Elizabeth Taylor was known for her extravagance. Everything she had was in excess. Hell, she even had double eyelashes! But it was her eight marriages with seven men, including Conrad Hilton and Michael Wilding, that set her apart. When asked why she married so often, Taylor replied, "I was taught by my parents that if you fall in love, if you want to have a love affair, you get married. I guess I'm very old-fashioned."
36. Michelle Rodriguez
Most Infamous Moment: In 2007, Rodriguez was sentenced to 180 days in jail after violating her probation. She had been on probation following, amongst other things, multiple DWI and DUI charges.
Michelle Rodriguez probably should have never gotten her driver’s license. Over the last few years, she’s been arrested for driving while under the influence, driving recklessly while over the speed limit, getting into a hit-and-run, and, consequently, photographed on the red carpet with an ankle bracelet. If you ever see her out somewhere, do the girl a favor and give her some cab fare.
35. Miley Cyrus
Most Infamous Moment: In 2011, following years of growing up on the Disney channel, Miley was caught on tape referring to herself as a pothead and smoking salvia.
The former Hannah Montana has tweeted half naked photos (on more than one occasion), took a topless photo shoot for Vanity Fair at 15, had photos of her giving fellatio to her boyfriend's penis-shaped birthday cake, and got engaged to said 22-year-old boyfriend at 19. This must have broken her dad’s achy breaky heart.
34. Vanessa Williams
Most Infamous Moment: Old nude photos of Williams, then Miss America 1984, surfaced and were published in Penthouse, forcing her to give up her title.
Before Williams became the big TV star we know her as today (with Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives under her belt), she was embroiled in a nude photo scandal. Photos she had taken two years prior for photographer Tom Chiapel, for whom she worked as an assistant at the time, found its way to the pages of a major publication, which caused her to resign from her position. The $500 million lawsuit she filed against Chiapel and Bob Guccione, the publisher of Penthouse, was eventually dropped a year later.
33. Joan Crawford
Most Infamous Moment: Crawford is best known for the depictions of child abuse in Mommy Dearest where she taught her daughter to never use wire hangers.
Crawford is synonymous with scandal. It was rumored that she danced nude for extra money, she had a love for rough sex and that she'd party until the break of dawn with plenty of vodka. Not to mention, Crawford's multiple marriages (three of them allegedly to gay men) made her constant tabloid fodder. Her known rival Bette Davis said Crawford slept her way to the top, men and women. However, Crawford was still regarded as MGM's "Box Office Queen."
32. Carrie Fisher
Most Infamous Moment: In 2010, she confessed that she did cocaine on the set of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back atop the film's Ice Planet.
In the late aughts, Fisher admitted to battling with bipolar disorder and drug addiction in her book and stand-up show Wishful Drinking. The original Princess Leia claimed that she did so much blow that John Belushi even told her she had a problem, which apparently surprised her. Yeah, when you have one of the most famous drug addicts in Hollywood telling you to calm down, you know you've got to reevaluate your life choices.
31. Whitney Houston
Most Infamous Moment: In a 2002 interview with Dianne Sawyer, when questioned about drugs causing her scary thin appearance, Houston responded, "Crack is cheap. I make too much money to smoke it...We don't do crack...Crack is whack."
Houston's ups and downs were constantly under public scrutiny; she was the one pop star everyone was rooting for to "get better." Despite her remarkable music career and impressive film resumé, The Bodyguard actress' reputation was tarnished by her drug addiction and her poisonous relationship with husband Bobby Brown.
30. Courtney Love
Most Infamous Moment: After making several public appearances clearly intoxicated, namely on The Late Show with David Letterman and the Comedy Central Roast of Pamela Anderson, and after a string of drug-related arrests and probation violations, Love was sentenced to six months of rehab for her cocaine use.
Courtney Love has continuously been a hot mess for the better part of two decades now. When she’s clean and sober(ish), she’s a talented musician and an underrated actress, having killed it in films like Man On The Moon and The People vs. Larry Flint. But when she lets her bad girl flag fly (and trust us, that flag’s usually a wavin’), Courtney’s busy feuding with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, publicly disowning her daughter Frances Bean Cobain on Twitter, showing up wasted for TV appearances and checking into court-ordered drug rehab centers.
29. Kristen Stewart
Most Infamous Moment: Stewart was dumped by long time beau and Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson after paparazzi photos revealed that she'd been having an affair with her Snow White & The Hunstman director, 41-year-old married father, Rupert Sanders.
Before Us Weekly ran the photos of her making out with a married man in her Mini Cooper, Stewart was already tabloid fodder; the paparazzi had caught her flipping the bird and smoking pot on numerous occasions.
28. Shannen Doherty
Most Infamous Moment: In 1993, Doherty's ex-fiance, Dean Factor, filed a restraining order against her after Doherty allegedly pulled a gun on him and threatened to hire a few guys to beat him and sodomize him.
In the 90s, Shannen Doherty was the ultimate Tinsel Town bad girl. She was booted from 90210 after being deemed impossible to work with by producer Aaron Spelling, she bared all for Playboy magazine and even married notorious Hollywood bad boy Rick Solomon, who you may remember as the night-vision casanova from the infamous Paris Hilton sex tape.
27. Bai Ling
Most Infamous Moment: Bai spent some time in a mental hospital after claiming that she "comes from the moon, where her grandmother lives."
You may know Bai Ling from such films as Shaolin Soccer, Lords Of Dogtown or Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge Of The Sith. Or maybe you know her from TV, where she recently starred in Celebrity Rehab. This bisexual Chinese beauty has led a wild life. She claims that her problems with alcohol began when she was just 14 years old, while she was serving as a child soldier in Tibet.
26. Jayne Mansfield
Most Infamous Moment: In 1963, Mansfield became one of the first actresses to appear nude onscreen in Promises, Promises.
Mansfield invented the nip-slip. She wasn't one to shy away from the camera and even invited photographers into her custom-built house to take pictures of her in her heart-shaped pool. Mansfield even famously got married in a see-through dress. She was the major sex symbol in the late 50's early 60's until her untimely death at age 34 in a car accident, which her kids, including actress Mariska Hargitay, was also involved in.
25. Pam Anderson
Most Infamous Moment: In 1996, alongside ex-husband and Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, Pam appeared in arguably the most publicized and sought-after celebrity sex tape in history.
Former Home Improvement "tool girl" and Baywatch beauty Pam Anderson’s infamy doesn’t stem from her countless Playboy spreads and numerous marriages, but rather when she took it all off on home video.
24. Rose McGowan
Most Infamous Moment: McGowan attended the 1998 VMA's, accompanying then-boyfriend Marilyn Manson, wearing a completely see through dress.
Not only did she call bizarro rocker Marilyn Manson her boyfriend, but the actress grew up in a genuine cult, called Children of God, which was based in the Italian countryside. She and her family finally fled the group when it began advocating child-adult sexual relations.
23. Mae West
Most Infamous Moment: Before she was a Hollywood star, West wrote, directed and produced her own Broadway production entitled Sex. She was jailed for obscenity and sentenced to 10 days for "corrupting the morals of youth."
West is known as a man-eater and her quips are still unrivaled today. She oozed sex appeal on the big screen and shocked anyone within earshot on the street. West's classic oneliners include, and are by no means limited to, "A hard man is good to find," and "Good sex is like good bridge. If you don't have a good partner, you'd better have a good hand."
22. Frances Farmer
Most Infamous Moment: Farmer's studio hairdresser filed an assault charge claiming Farmer dislocated her jaw.
At the same time of her hairdresser's assault charge, police were after Farmer for an unpaid fine for driving drunk with her lights on in a War Zone. From the moment they entered her room to take her into custody, she started fighting. She threw an inkwell at a judge who then sentenced her to 180 days, to which she responded by knocking down a policeman, bruising another, and was promptly carried away.
After receiving unwanted shock therapy and assaulting her mother, she lived with a family that picked her up hitchhiking. After being arrested for vagrancy, she spent five years in a psych ward.
21. Tallulah Bankhead
Most Infamous Moment: Tallulah was on a TWA flight the stewardess said "Would you like some of our TWA coffee Miss Bankhead?" Tallulah, reportedly, looked her up and down lasciviously and said "No darling but I'd love some of your TWA tea."
Bankhead is more known for her real life antics versus what happened to her on screen. She had numerous lovers in Hollywood, men and women, and infamously told Joan Crawford, "Darling, you're divine. I've had an affair with your husband. You'll be next." She threw raging parties and was even taken to court for mistreatment of one of her maids when she didn't roll her joint right. Her response: "Good help is so hard to find these days."
20. Winona Ryder
Most Infamous Moment: In December of 2001, Ryder was arrested on shoplifting charges in Beverly Hills, California. She was accused of stealing $5,500 worth of designer clothes and accessories at a Saks Fifth Avenue department store.
Winona’s one way ticket into the bad girl Hall Of Fame came when she was arrested for shoplifting, but more of her problems surfaced once she hit the court room. While on trial, she was accused of abusing drugs, including oxycodone, valium and vicodin, without prescriptions. Yep, this gorgeous millionaire decided to go all Ocean’s 11 on us. But, alas, George Clooney she is not. She was busted. Thriving career, interrupted.
19. Zsa Zsa Gabor
Most Infamous Moment: In 1989, the feisty Gabor was arrested in Beverly Hills for slapping a police officer across the face.
As far as infamous actresses go, Zsa Zsa Gabor is an O.G. This former Miss Hungary came to the United States in pursuit of fame and fortune. She found both in spades. She’s perhaps most infamous for having nine husbands. Gabor was once quoted as saying, "I’m a marvelous housekeeper: Every time I leave a man I keep his house." Zsa Zsa Gabor: The original gold digger.
18. Margot Kidder
Most Infamous Moment: In 1996, due to her bipolar disorder, Kidder was discovered naked in undergrowth in LA with the caps fallen from her teeth.
Kidder is known for playing the original Lois Lane and for her extensive horror movie credits, including The Amityville Horror and Black Christmas. However, Kidder is also known for having a manic-depressive episode, living on the street, and sharing a box with a homeless man. She was discovered in a family's backyard with her hair chopped off and missing her dental bridge.
17. Tawny Kitaen
Most Infamous Moment: In 2002, Kitaen was charged with domestic abuse after beating up her then-husband, professional baseball player Chuck Finley.
Tawny Kitaen, who first became famous for dry humping the hood of a classic Jaguar in an old Whitesnake video, is certainly infamous. Prior to the new millenium, this former beauty queen and America's Funniest Home Videosco-host seemed to have everything going for her. Then Y2K hit and everything went off the rails!
Over the last 12 years, Tawny's been charged with domestic abuse, cocaine possession, driving under the influence and been sentenced to a drug rehab center. Which drug rehab center did she choose? Well the one on TV, of course! Yes, Tawny is yet another one of our lovely ladies to have been a cast member on Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab.
16. Natasha Lyonne
Most Infamous Moment: In 2003, Natasha was arrested for an incident in which she broke into her neighbor’s apartment, broke a mirror, and threatened to molest their dog.
Between 1999 and 2005, Natasha Lyonne was on a roll. She booked big roles in hit films like American Pie, Kate & Leopold, Detroit Rock City, Blade: Trinity and Scary Movie 2. Then, in quick fashion, it all went downhill. She was arrested on DUI charges, rumored to have been hooked on heroin and was famously evicted by her landlord, actor Michael Rapaport. Following her eviction she was believed to have been homeless for a short period of time, disappearing, and then resurfacing weeks later in a Manhattan hospital.
Luckily for Natasha, she’s now three years clean and in the middle of a full-fledged comeback, booking roles on FOX’s New Girl and in the latest American Pie film, American Reunion.
15. Anne Heche
Most Infamous Moment: In a series of interviews given in 2001, Heche stated that she had an alter ego named "Celestia," an alien from another planet who could speak to God and was the half-sister of Jesus Christ.
Anne Heche, former lover of perpetually dancing talk show host Ellen Degeneres, claims to have been mentally insane for the first 31 years of her life. In 2000, Heche drove from Los Angeles to Cantua Creek, a rural area outside Fresno, California, and, wearing only a bra and shorts, roamed through the desert for an entire night before knocking on a stranger's house and babbling gibberish to the occupants. If Anne said she was nuts, we'd be hard pressed not to believe her.
14. Sean Young
Most Infamous Moment: In an attempt to win a role as Catwoman in 1989's Batman film, Sean constructed a homemade Catwoman costume and confronted director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton during production. There wasn't even a Catwoman role written into the script.
Sean Young was busy being infamous when Lindsay Lohan was still in diapers. She was once arrested at an Oscar party for slapping a security guard. She heckled the winners during their speeches at the 2008 Directors Guild Of America Awards. She was once even accused of stalking actor James Woods. And, with that being said, it should come as no surprise that her last major television appearance was as a patient of Dr. Drew Pinsky’s on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab.
13. Marlene Dietrich
Most Infamous Moment: At one point in her career, she presented a lucrative contract by the Third Reich to be the celebrity face of Germany.
This legendary German-born actress made her way over to the States and quickly reached almost unfathomable heights. At one point in time, she was the highest paid actress in all of Hollywood. While promoting a film in London in 1937, Nazi officials approached Dietrich and offered her an exclusive contract to return to Germany and be the foremost film star of the the Nazi party. Marlene shot the offer down and continued to perform here in the states until 1979. But when she returned to Germany in 1960, she was regarded as a traitor by a vocal portion of her countrymen.
12. Vanessa Hudgens
Most Infamous Moment: In September of 2007, nude self-taken photos of the High School Musical star, then 17, surfaced online.
Vanessa Hudgens is arguably the originator of leaked nude photos during the camera phone generation. After the first batch of her naked pictures (which were reportedly sent to actor Drake Bell) surfaced online in 2007, another one of her topless came out in 2009. And just when we thought those days were behind her, more graphic self-portraits of her touching herself and making out with Nickelodeon star Alexa Nikolas found its way online in 2011.
11. Lindsay Lohan
Most Infamous Moment: After a night out in Hollywood in 2007, Lohan drove drunk into a tree, fled the scene, and the cops found cocaine in her car.
When we first met Lindsay Lohan, she was the adorable freckle-faced teen starring in such films as The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. However, over the course of the last decade, Lindsay’s gradually started spending more time in Los Angeles courtrooms than on Hollywood backlots, two of the reasons being an apparent jewelry theft and her multiple car accidents. Whether she’s on TMZ wearing a court-ordered ankle bracelet or in the pages of Playboy wearing absolutely nothing, controversy seems to follow Ms. Lohan wherever she goes.
10. Angelina Jolie
Most Infamous Moment: While she was married to Billy Bob Thornton, Jolie used to keep a tiny vial of the actor's blood on a chain and wear it as a necklace.
We knew Angelina Jolie was different than your average actress from the second we saw her, which was as a stark naked, lesbian model in 1998’s Gia. Since then Mrs. Pitt has admittedly frequented dominatrix clubs, boned Billy Bob Thornton in a limo while en route to an awards show and open mouth kissed her own brother at the 2000 Oscars. This isn't too much of a surprise, however, considering she grew up with a live-in boyfriend (whom her mother invited to live in their home) whom she would periodically get into knife fights with for pleasure.
9. Paz De La Huerta
Most Infamous Moment: In March of 2011, Paz was arrested for starting a drunken fistfight in an New York City club with former MTV reality star Samantha Swetra. The fight happened in front of, of all people, Lindsay Lohan.
On HBO’s brilliant Boardwalk Empire, the exotic Paz De La Huerta plays Steve Buscemi’s perpetually naked and overly dramatic ex-girlfriend. Paz oozes sexuality. Over the course of the last few years she’s continuously appeared nude in a handful of films and in countless pictorials. And when it comes to drama, trust us, it's by no means reserved for when the cameras are rolling. At one point, she even kneaded her nude breasts during an interview with a New York journalist in a bathhouse.
8. Lana Turner
Most Infamous Moment: Possibly cementing her image as a "femme fatal" forever, Turner's daughter Cheryl Crane stabbed Turner's abusive lover to death.
While Turner started off her career by playing innocent characters, she became famous for her femme fatale roles, being a WWII pinup and not being shy about the amount of lovers she had. On top of marrying a band leader, 11 years her senior, the night she met him, dating a mobster, and having six other husbands to boot, Turner stated, "My goal was to have one husband and seven children, but it turned out to be the other way around."
7. Jane Fonda
Most Infamous Moment: In November of 1970, she was arrested for drug-smuggling on the way back from an anti-Vietnam fundraiser in Ohio, resulting in the iconic mugshot above.
Jane Fonda's not just that GILF on The Newsroom. She's actually a legend. During the 1960s, Fonda was one of the most outspoken political activists for the Civil Rights Movement and opposition to the war in Vietnam. Additionally, she supported Huey Lewis and the Black Panthers in the 1970s.
Of course, her efforts didn't come without trouble. During a visit to Vietnam, Fonda was photographed sitting on an anti-aircraft battery amongst Vietnamese soldiers, which enraged Americans. She later explained that she was caught up in a song about equality and didn't realize where she was sitting.
6. Marilyn Monroe
Most Infamous Moment: She had an affair with President John F. Kennedy in the early 1960s.
Marilyn Monroe's reputation precedes her. She was an insatiable sexpot who rushed into marriage numerous times with men who couldn't keep up with her, including Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller. But her troubles weren't limited to romantic relationships.
Monroe grew up struggling with a mentally unstable mother and being sexually abused by family members. And, despite being lusted after by the entire world, her own loneliness and instability would eventually cause her to die of an overdose of Nembutal and chloral hydrate at 36-years-old.
5. Mackenzie Phillips
Most Infamous Moment: In 2009, Phillips confessed to carrying on a 10-year consensual sexual relationship with her father John Phillips, of the Mamas and the Papas, after he raped her in a hotel room when she was 19 and on a drug binge.
During her appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Phillips read an excerpt from her book, High on Arrival, stating, "I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father." The confession ultimately alienated her from the family, which includes half-sister actress Bijou Phillips and Chynna Phillips.
But that wasn't her first scandalous moment. In the 1970s, while being a teen starlet in the sitcom One Day at a Time, Phillips was arrested for public drunkenness and cocaine, which eventually got her fired from the show in 1980. Despite several relapses and rehab treatments throughout the 80s and 90s, Phillips, who claimed her father begain injecting heroin in her as a pre-teen, was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport for possession of cocaine and heroin.
4. Drew Barrymore
Most Infamous Moment: At just 13 years old, Drew already had two stints in drug rehabilitation centers. She began using cocaine at the ripe old age of 12.
Though she’s now a bona fide international megastar, Drew Barrymore earned her rightful place on this list at an early age. As a pre teen, Drew was inexplicably let into Los Angeles nightclubs, where she'd regularly be seen boozing and dancing the night away. While most little girls her age were going through puberty, Drew was going through liquor cabinets.
3. Gene Tierney
Most Infamous Moment: Tierney had a fling with a young John F. Kennedy, who couldn't pursue their relationship further because of his political ambitions. She voted for Nixon.
After contracting rubella from a fan who snuck out of quarantine to see her, Tierney had a premature birth to her daughter, who was born deaf, partially blind, and mentally challenged. It is possible that the knowledge of her contracting the disease from a fan caused her bipolar issues.
After filming The Left Hand of God, Humphrey Bogart encouraged her to seek help. Tierney went to an asylum, where she received 27 shock treatments, tried to escape, and was re-institutionalized.
2. Peg Entwistle
Most Infamous Moment: Entwistle is known for committing suicide by jumping off the "H" of the "Hollywood" sign.
Entwistle was a well-respected Broadway actress (Bette Davis saw her act and told her mother, "I want to be exactly like Peg Entwistle"). However, when the depression hit, it was hard to find stage work. Then, she moved to LA to find movie work, but was unsuccessful. She could only get one film credit to her name, the unsuccessful Thirteen Women, causing her to be dropped by RKO.
Ironically, after her leap from the "H" of the "Hollywood" sign, Entwistle's uncle received a letter from Beverly Hills Playhouse offering her the role of a young girl who commits suicide.
1. Loretta Young
Most Infamous Moment: Young had a secret love child with costar Clark Gable.
During filming of The Call of the Wild, Young and then-married costar Clark Gable began having an affair which resulted in Young's pregnancy. To protect both of their images, Young hid the pregnancy, gave an interview while under blankets saying she had a disease from childhood, and took a "vacation" to England.
When she returned home to Venice, she kept her baby, actress Judy Lewis, for a few months before sending her to an orphanage. When Judy was 19 months old, Young returned for her, making the public believe she had adopted a baby instead of having a secret love child. Judy even had surgery to pin back her ears she inherited from Clark Gable.
