Sniper Elite is a graphic series. Developer Rebellion prides itself on the tech in its slow-motion kill-cam, which has only become more detailed since the series firsts appeared in 2005. Now with Sniper Elite III in development for next-gen consoles and PC, the team has added another two layers to the three present in Sniper Elite V2 – now there's a layer of muscle, dynamically fracturing bone and 3D blood, so a well-placed shot appear more horrific than ever. (Plus there's the horror of automotive trauma.)
You can decide for yourself what the balance is between morbid fascination and the developers' idea that the realistic gore here is to drive home the point of how terrifying snipers were – and this video certainly does that – but when you see a bullet tearing through a German soldier's exploding eye, what may jump to mind is pure fetish. In any case, the series has historically been very challenging, making each successful kill really count.
Sniper Elite III will be out later this year.
