A Brief History of Teachers Accidentally Showing Sex Tapes in Class

Doctors, lawyers, politicians, even teachers—it’s a given that many (if not most) people watch porn from time to time. That said, there’s an understanding that there’s a right place and time to view erotic material (it’s why websites use that helpful #NSFW tag). Unfortunately, in a day-and-age with smart phones, digital projects, Apple TVs, and laptops, it’s getting harder and harder to separate professional time from personal, even you want to. In most jobs such missteps go unnoticed—why would an accountant show a coworker their phone or laptop?—but over the last few years a number of teachers in both higher and lower education have made some seriously unfortunate judgement calls. Let this be a warning warning to you: Here’s a list of those instructors, professors, and teacher's assistants, who accidentally showed students porn to their students.

A classroom of Forest Heights Middle School students in Little Rock learned more about their teacher than they'd ever hoped when she showed them a video of her "performing sex acts" on her fiancé. One outraged parent told local news his "heart goes out not only to my son, but other kids in the classroom." It's understandable that he's angry, but then again, it's hard to imagine how this wouldn't be the most awesome thing to ever happen to an 8th grade classroom.

A teacher at Casa Roble High School made an unfortunate mistake when he linked his Apple TV to a school computer. Rather than educational videos, his own personal porn stash appeared on the screen, surprising his classroom and outraging parents. The teacher was promptly put on administrative leave. The real question here, though, is who watches porn on an Apple TV anyway?

This unfortunate tale takes us to beautiful Vicenza, Italy where a teacher accidentally showed her eight-year-old students some graphic gang-bang scenes. The NY Daily News reports that the videos, featuring one woman and six men, were set in the 1980s and featured a soundtrack by Duran Duran. As wild as that seems, it wasn't entirely the teacher's fault: She was apparently given a USB stick with teaching materials by one of the children's mothers. When she opened the file, the students learned a very different sort of lesson. Surprise!

This is a case where it's probably a good thing that the teacher showed an embarrassing photo. A computer teacher in Northern California mistakenly showed nude pics of himself when explaining how to transfer photos from one electronic device to another. After the school called the police, cops searched his computer and found more than 200 pornographic stories as well as photographs. One story involved a girl having sex with her brother that included an image of an underage female. The teacher, Richard Styner, was charged with possession of child pornography. He was also been charged with first-degree residential burglary charges for breaking into a friend's house and taking pictures of her underwear. It was also reported that he photoshopped her face onto the bodies of nude women. Yuck.

Damian Wilson was forced to go on paid leave after showing nude pictures to his students. First Coast News reports that he had been using his cell-phone camera to take pictures of his classroom to show the kids how messy they had left it. When he showed them the photos, there were also nude photos that had been left on his camera. Before teaching, Wilson was a local politician.

A University of Iowa teacher's assistant accidentally sent more than eighty students nude photos along with their math homework. Students were quick to tweet about the event, to the further embarrassment of the T.A. A university spokesperson told local TV station KCRG-TV that they had asked students to delete the message—a request that had about zero percent chance of being complied with. The videos reportedly included both animated GIFs and stills of the T.A. and a man sexting. She showed up to class the next day visibly embarrassed, but taught as usual.

Rather than playing a porn clip in her class, elementary school teacher Crystal Defanti accidently gave a sex tape to her students as a keepsake DVD. The tape, titled "Memories," showed six seconds of Defanti having sex on a couch between shots of children sharing their favorite stories in class. While it was reported at the time that Defanti probably wouldn't loose her job, it's a memory she's likely been trying to forget ever since.

During his International Baccalaureate math class, unfortunately-named Oakland High School teacher Randy (heh) McClellan accidentally showed students a picture of a naked man from the waist down. (No word on if it was McClellan himself.) There's not much other info about this one, except that the teacher was reprimanded and promptly apologized. Apparently he was well-liked, since no students decided to leave his class. Still, dick pics have their place, and it's certainly not the classroom.

This particular instance made headlines recently for the especially, err, unusual nature of the pornography. A professor at the KV Zürich Business School left a projector running without realizing his computer was still connected to it. Unfortunately for said instructor, he felt the sudden urge to watch some hardcore amputee porn at the time. Hey, everyone has something a little left-of-center that they're into, but if you're going to watch porn at work (which you should never do, btw), you may want to save the seriously out-there stuff for later.
