Best Picture Nominees Get the Artsy Treatment

Why don't all movie posters look like this?

In honor of this year's Best Picture nominees, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (aka the people who vote on the Oscars) has released a set of posters representing each film. The nominees are Amour, Argo, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty, Life of Pi, Les Miserables, Beasts of the Southern Wild, and Django Unchained.

Redesigned and minimalist movie posters are all over the internet, but these were commissioned specially for the Oscars from "a small group of young international artists." They're not for sale (yet), but maybe this will convince movie studios that less is more when it comes to advertising. Probably not, though.
