I feel in high spirits, and I think it's due to spring or summer—not sure what season it is anymore—finally being here. A lot of things are right around the corner and I can’t wait to share them with you all. This week was full of great food, chance meetings, and time with my New York family. Next week I will be in NYC again for the launch of Sneakerpedia, so if you see a brother wearing some heat make sure you holla! See you next week.

Saying Goodbye to Medium Well
WHAT: Medium rare steak
WHERE: Tribeca Grand Hotel Restaurant, New York City
WHEN: Friday (May 6), 9:00 p.m.
The great folks over at the Tribeca Grand Hotel decided to host me for a fantastic dinner at their restaurant. Everything tasted incredible, from the petit filet steak and the scallops to the crab cake and the potato frites. Apparently they have some of the best-cut steaks in the city, and for an extremely reasonable price. This was my first time eating my steak medium rare and I don’t think I can ever go back to medium well. If you decided to visit this restaurant, make sure you ask for the concierge, Ariel. Tell him that I sent you!
Fancy Hot Chocolate
WHAT: A cup of cocoa
WHERE: La Colombe, New York City
WHEN: Saturday (May 7), 9:45 a.m.
After a random tweet I decided to meet up with one of my readers so we could grab a cup of coffee. He rode his bike all the way from Brooklyn to Soho so it was only right that I took him for a cup of coffee at La Colombe. The place is about a 2 minute walk from the Tribeca Grand Hotel, and they serve you in very fancy dishware. The place is a pretty cool coffee shop that serves the needs of the neighborhood. I think it’s the perfect reason for me to move to Soho.
Pancakes of Love
WHAT: Cinnamon Banana Pancakes
WHERE: Ideya, New York City
WHEN: Saturday (May 7), 11:30 a.m.
On a beautiful Saturday morning in Soho, the power of social media brought three people together for an amazing breakfast date. I ate breakfast with two lovely ladies and we all decided to have the Cinnamon Banana Pancakes. The pancakes really changed the game for me. I am starting to get really familiar with Latin Caribbean cuisine; they sure know how to hook it up in the kitchen. If you decide to visit Ideya for breakfast, make sure you try the pancakes. If you don’t like them I will pay for your meal via Paypal. Ha!
The Ultimate Shepherd’s Pie
WHAT: A mountain of shepherd’s pie
WHERE: Elixor, Montreal West Island
WHEN: Monday (May 9), 12:30 p.m.
I went to lunch with my friends from Converse and we decided to eat at Elixor in the West Island of Montreal. I’d never eaten there before, but they were all raving about the shepherd’s pie, so I had to try it. The SP looked like a volcano, something the eruption of flavor only confirmed. The restaurant is a bit out of the way for weekly eating, but I believe it's worth the drive. Make sure you ask for the beer and cheese soup—I know right? But trust me, it's unbelievable. I guess these types of things only happen in Quebec.
A Speakeasy
WHAT: An intimate evening with Bombay Sapphire
WHERE: 426 St Gabriel, Old Montreal
WHEN: Tuesday (May 10), 5 p.m.
I was invited to a secret SPEAKEASY with Bombay Sapphire Gin. You needed a special key to attend this event at the Auberge restaurant in Old Montreal. We learned how to create special drinks and pair them with great foods. I think this summer I will be spending a lot of time in my kitchen practicing these new recipes. The Chef at the Auberge has been awarded a Michelin Star, so you know the food is fantastic.
