There isn't a lot of continuity between the many releases of Mario Kart as Honest Trailers puts voice to “one-off” franchise features that quickly disappear. It's a blue shell straight to your heart.
Nintendo's upcoming release Mario Kart 8 is set to drop on May 30, for Wii U and rumored to have the possibly game-changing ability for gamers to edit their own tracks (keep your fingers crossed).
