10 Adult Swim Shows That Need to be Adapted into Video Games

Adult Swim—the company best known for its risqué and often controversial presentation of television—has delivered some pure flourish in the form of The Boondocks' latest tape. With that in mind, our attention turned to the overall history of greatness from Adult Swim and Williams Street. The general content they produce is dope enough to the point where they have their own Nielsen ratings just because they're so different than what else is being developed.

The late night block also has an equally lavish website that allows independent developers to create free-to-play titles for an engaged audience. If you dig hard enough, you'll even see standouts from the company's past-midnight programming that made it to consoles like PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii. But, with next-gen clearly in the picture, these attempts are nothing compared to what they could do if they put a Kickstarter behind it.

With over 98 million eyes all on the absurd company, we wanted to list 10 video games that are on our Adult Swim wish list. We know that we aren't the only ones who want to see our favorite animated heroes on the Playstation 4 or Xbox One.

Platform: Playstation 4, Xbox One
Pitch: Think Rock Band or Guitar Hero for hardcore shredders.

Harmonix and their CEO Alex Rigopulos told everybody at PAX East that the studio has "grand plans" for reviving their Rock Band franchise for the new generation of home consoles. What better way than to make a title focusing on the death metel band Dethklok?! The show is deeply rooted in harmonies, even going so far as to add pinch harmonics instead of the usual bleep when using extreme profanity.

Luckily for gamers, this would be a Rock Band 4.0 adjustment, allowing them to play as Pickles the Drummer, Murderface, and "lyrical visionary" Nathan Explosion.

Pitch: With the right development, this cult classic will achieve crossover success.

While Meatwad, Master Shake and Frylock have all appeared in a game at one time or another, there would be an appreciation for their surreal appeal on next-gen consoles. Take the crazy humor from the Destruct-O-Thon mobile game, add some vehicular missions, and you have an adventure-fueled experience that would do numbers on the PS4 or Xbox One. Make Carl's Freaking Strip Poker available as pre-order DLC if you have to, but this would make true gamers and fans of the show happy beyond belief.

Pitch: Fans of Watch Dogs would get a kick out of this game!

For those who aren't fans of Temple Run, this PG-rated Adult Swim title is one that fits in your queue. Utilizing puzzle elements, the title challenges gamers to make solvable videos set to the show's quirky sense of humor. Players would use the show's carrot-topped protagonist Brendon, an eight-year-old kid who makes tapes with his friends during their spare time. Think of this game as a Jonathan Blow-styled experience that puts you in the shoes of some memorable characters. All from the comfort of home!

Platform: Playstation 4, Xbox One
Pitch: Fable with a twist. 

South Park proved that you can stay true to your animation style and produce a pretty awesome game. Keeping that in mind, we wish that creator Dino Stamatopoulos could convince Adult Swim to bring his satirical comedy to the gaming world.

Inspired by the karmic choices from the inFamous series, Moralton's favorite son would be at the center of a game that would challenge his convictions. Gamers would appreciate the unusually warped sense of humor, and getting to play as a morally upstanding 12-year-old boy could be a different mix for players.

Pitch: Michael Jai White has created a whole universe, so why not a videogame?

Inspired by the popularity of Double Helix Games'Strider, this Adult Swim title would incorporate elements from the animated spin-off of the film. Black Dynamite and his crew of comrades would be selectable, as they must stop "The Man" from destroying the culture. Each armed with a special attribute, Black Dynamite: The Game could add some much needed soul to your console and serve as a complement to the series while we're waiting on its return.

Pitch: Bringing the Dingo's actions to a home console could reinvigorate the show.

The popular animated series by Adam Reed and Matt Thompson involved plots featuring a villain named Killface and a superhero named Awesome X. Taking their brand of humor and applying it to a first person experience could reinvigorate the show to return on the air.

Players would have the choice of being a bone-white, red-eyed, 7-foot-tall menace, or the billionaire tycoon Xander Crews in order to fight against the growing evil of Simon. Depending their choice, gamers would be able to experience some of the show's other characters like Antagone and Hooper—all in next-gen glory.

Pitch: Developed by Cliff Bleszinski, this trippy adventure would be pure next-gen NC-17 gore.

The reality of an unusual prison immediately sounds like a cool premise for a video game. For fans of the Titmouse, Inc. animated series, crafting a Grand Theft Auto-inspired title would be interesting to see. And Rockstar Games is no stranger to creating psychedelic shifts in gaming.

Gamers could play as The Warden, completing missions devised by his own personal desires. Who wouldn't want to play as this guy?

Pitch: Seth Green should do this idea before his partner beats him to it.

Robot Chicken has never made a game themselves, despite having such crazy characters and action. Developed as a MMORPG, players would be able to step into the roles of Humping Robot, Bitch Puddin', and Little Drummer Boy to find adventure. Similar to South Park's recent attempt at satiating gamers, whomever finds the right formula to make Seth Green's baby a billion will also cause some controversy.

Platform: Playstation 4 and Xbox One
Pitch: Rockstar Games next IP to be a crossover success.

Bringing Hank and Dean Venture into the central role of this spy-action thriller would be fun for fans of the series. Mixing action, comedy, gadgets and stealth, the under-achieving duo would go on super-secret missions and would be aided by Brock Samson and their father Dr. Thaddeus Venture. Adding the butterfly-themed super villain, The Monarch, to the next-gen gold rush of games would be enjoyable en masse.

Platform: Playstation Network
Pitch: A next-gen co-op starring Huey and Riley Freeman.

Inspired by Aaron McGruder's popular series (now in its fourth season), this PSN exclusive would find Huey, Riley, and Granddad fighting to keep their home and their sanity. Developed as a fighting game, players could choose these three heroes (the rest are unlockable or available through DLC) as they fight for their respective story lines. Throw in Aaron McGruder's animation style with his penchant for humor and controversy, and you have the makings of a possible franchise.
