After a slew of successful musicals, NBC is switching over to drama for its newest live production. The network earned plenty of cheers for its 2013 production of The Sound of Music Live starring Carrie Underwood, as well as last year’s The Wiz Live—which featured Ne-Yo’s Tin Man doing the Dab. Now, it looks like a live version of A Few Good Men is making its way to the small screen.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Aaron Sorkin is working on adapting his 1992 film, which was originally a Broadway play, for television. He will also executive produce the project alongside Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. The story follows military lawyer Lt. Daniel Kaffee (play by Tom Cruise in the film), who must defend three Marines on trial for murder. He suspects Col. Nathan R. Jessup (played by Jack Nicholson on film) of a cover up.
After 24 years, Sorkin seemed pretty excited to return to the project. “I’ve been incredibly impressed watching NBC resurrect live musical theater for television and I’m eager to team up with Craig and Neil to help bring live drama back as well,” he said.
The live adaptation is set to air some time in 2017. Before then, NBC plans to air a live production of the musical Hairspray this December.
