Grammarly, a San Francisco-based company that refers to itself as “the world’s leading automated proofreader,” recently analyzed comments on 19 presidential candidates’ Facebook pages to see which supporters displayed the worst grammar. The company concluded that supporters of Republican candidates made more errors than supporters of Democrats, used less diverse words, and Donald Trump supporters were the worst grammar offenders of them all.

According to the Washington Post, the company explained their results in a detailed blog post. “Whoever your pick for POTUS, one thing’s certain — political topics inspire passionate discussions,” they wrote. “With a light heart and heavy-hitting algorithms, we visited each candidate’s official Facebook page and looked at the comments there to see how well their supporters handle themselves when they communicate their ideas in writing.”

The study found that Democratic supporters make 4.2 mistakes per 100 words, while Republican supporters made 8.7 mistakes per 100 words. Lincoln Chafee supporters have the best grammar with just 3.1 errors per 100 words. Trump supporters, however, commit 12.6 per 100 words—the worst in the bunch.
