So…after 12 episodes of The Killing and numerous red herring suspects, it appears that we may finally know who drowned Rosie Larsen in a car trunk. Emphasis on the may. The AMC series has thrown viewers for too many loops already to trust that there won't be one or two more.
First, it looked like Jasper and Kris, the high school druggie douche bags who filmed themselves degrading girls, might have been responsible. Then it was the pervert janitor who liked to watch them do that through a peephole in his closet. After that, it was Bennet Ahmed (Brandon Jay McLaren), Rosie's friendly English teacher with the thing for young girls, or possibly his Muslim friend Muhammad. Or was it Belko Royce (Brandon Sexton III), the family friend and envious employee of Rosie's shady father Stan (Brent Sexton). At one point it even looked like junkie cop Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) was the killer.
Well, after all that, signs now point to sensitive mayoral candidate Darren Richmond (Billy Campbell), who, it turns out, was scaring the shit out of escorts on the side, displaying a fixation with drowning. Of course, we wouldn’t put it past the show’s creators to throw us off the scent one last time for the season finale, but assuming the politician is the one who drowned Rosie in a car trunk, here are five reasons why he would have risked it all.

5. She wasn’t what he paid for.
The show hasn't really explained how the hell grade A student Rosie Larsen, whose aunt Terry (Jamie Anne Allman) was secretly an escort, ended up also working as a call girl, but if she was accepting dates using her aunt's Beau Soleil account, it's quite possible that Richmond ordered up a hot older woman and got stuck with a hot high school girl. Ick.
We don't know about you, but when we end up with a hotter, younger woman than we expected to, it always sends us flying into a violent rage.
Stan Larsen
4. Rosie's father damaged his belongings.
Stan Larsen is not a gentle man. You may have noticed this when he was outed as a onetime enforcer for the mob, or possibly when he was bashing innocent Bennet Ahmed's skull against the ground because he thought the teacher had killed Rosie.
Brute force is fine when you're a collections thug for gangsters, but it's unacceptable when you operate a moving company, as Stan did before going to jail for his assault on Ahmed. Our guess is that Richmond hired papa Larsen to move him into his bachelor pad and Stan damaged something that belonged to the candidate's dead wife, necessitating some payback. Think that'd be overkill? Yeah, so did the mover we bisected for breaking our favorite bong.
The Rain
3. The rain drove him insane.
In this fictionalized version of Seattle, which already has a bad enough reputation for precipitation, it doesn't rain so much as it pours. Constantly. It's not weather, it's fucking Chinese water torture, and we don't know how anyone could tolerate it.
It wouldn't surprise us in the least if the incessant rainfall drove Richmond insane, to the point of fixating on the feeling of drowning... We feel damp just watching the show. Ayo!
Scandal
2. An underage prostitute scandal would've cost him the mayoral race.
Politicians can spin a lot of scandals. Shit, Richmond already survived his close personal relationship with Bennet Ahmed, who was considered to be the prime suspect in Rosie’s murder case before he was believed to be a terrorist. The limits of this would probably be getting caught with a hooker who's still in high school. Then again, Marion Barry smoked crack and was re-elected mayor of D.C., so maybe we give voters to much credit.
Didn't Kill Her
1. He didn’t kill Rosie.
The show sets it up so it looks like Richmond's political advisor/jumpoff Gwen (Kristin Lehman) just discovered his sexual escapades when incumbent mayor Lesley Adams hands her a file of photos showing him with various escorts, but there is no reason to believe she hadn’t known about this already.
It’s quite possible that Gwen killed Rosie in a jealous rage when she first caught Darren with a younger model, or that, given the scandal that Rosie could've caused, she tried to clean up after Richmond to save his campaign. Hell, she might have even tried to frame him for murder to get back at him for sleeping around on her. Though we like to imagine Gwen would be turned on if she walked in on Darren with a dolled-up school girl, several ex-girlfriends and kitchen knife scars lead us to believe this is never kosher unless you're shooting porn.
