Break-ups are common in Hollywood—so common, in fact, that we have been desensitized to the point where we expect famous couples to break up rather than live happily ever after. The root of many Hollywood divorces is infidelity, and whether it's just one person stepping out or both doing dirt behind each other's backs, it's guaranteed to end badly.
One of the main catalysts is such scenarios is the homewrecker who hijacks husbands and boyfriends from their unassuming partners. Often times, it's not their intention to completely destroy an already existing relationship, but the end result is usually a heaping mess. Continue reading The 10 Hottest Homewreckers in Hollywood for a recent history of careless romance.
LeAnn Rimes
When: 2009
Who: Eddie Cibrian and Brandi Glanville
In March 2009, news broke about actor Eddie Cibrian and singer LeAnn Rimes' secret affair. At the time of the tryst, Cibrian was married to Brandi Glanville and Rimes to Dean Sheremet. The two were caught together outside the Malibu home of Jeff Berger, a longtime friend of Rimes. The paparazzi didn't stop them from continuing their adulterous hook-up, however. It had been reported that the two lovers rented a house in West Hollywood, where they would meet up for late night thrills. "I never once thought what I was doing was okay," Rimes revealed in the October 2010 issue of Shape. "I hate that people got hurt. But I don't regret the outcome." Cibrian and Rimes have been married since April 2011.
Rachel Uchitel
When: 2009
Who: Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren
Early on the morning of November 27, 2009, Tiger Woods was injured when he lost control of his SUV outside of his mansion in Florida. Initial reports said that his wife at the time, Elin, had smashed in the rear window to get him out of the car. However, as details developed, it turned out that Woods' wife was issuing a vicious beat down with a golf club after finding out about an alleged affair.
The PGA superstar had many side pieces, but Rachel Uchitel was the straw that broke the camel's back. The National Enquirer exposed the infamous jumpoff just hours after the accident and all hell broke loose. Elin filed for divorce, and when it was all said and done, she walked away $110 million and shared custody of their two children. As for Uchitel, she received $10 million in hush money, but allegedly returned the money after breaking a confidentiality agreement.
Denise Richards
When: 2006
Who: Richie Sambora and Heather Locklear
Heather Lockler and Denise Richards were once close friends, but that all changed when Richards started sleeping with Bon Jovi rock star Richie Sambora. According to girl code, Richards pulled a dirty, backstabbing move, as Sambora and Locklear had been married for 11 years. Some reports indicate that Richards and Sambora didn't get together until after they were both divorced, but it's hard to believe that a romantic relationship hadn't already been in the works. Richards and Sambora have carried on an on-again, off-again relationship since 2006.
Britney Spears
When: 2004
Who: Kevin Federline and Shar Jackson
Kevin Federline and actress Shar Jackson were settled into a comfortable life together in the early 2000s, and by 2004 the couple had one child with another on the way. Two kids, white picket fence, the whole nine yards—sweet life, right? Nah, not for K-Fed. He wanted out and focused his efforts on brokering a power move with Britney Spears. Despite the fact that he was a backup dancer, Federline managed to bag Spears, leaving Jackson in his dust. By July 2004, Spears and Federline announced their engagement after dating for roughly three months.
Jackson later commented, "[It] wasn't like breaking up a relationship. It was like breaking up a family." If that isn't homewrecking, what is?
Gabrielle Union
When: 2008
Who: Dwyane Wade and Siohvaughn Funches
This has to do more with Gabrielle Union's perceived homewrecker status than anything else. The story goes that NBA superstar Dwyane Wade started dating Union before splitting with his then-wife, Siohvaughn Funches. The timing of the relationships made it seem like the actress was the reason for the divorce, but the reality was that Wade filed in 2007, and didn't meet the actress until 2008.
Following the divorce, Funches filed lawsuits against Union, claiming "emotional distress." However, the allegations were quickly dismissed by a judge based on evidence that cleared Union of any such homewrecking. "I think people mistook me taking the high road as an admission of guilt," Union opened up years later in an interview with JET. "Dwyane and I made a decision very early to not react to the negativity, and I kept feeling like the truth would come out. The problem is, when it did, nobody cared."
Sienna Miller
When: 2008
Who: Balthazar Getty and Rosetta Getty
"I probably seem like not a particularly nice person, not a girl's girl," Sienna Miller told GQ about her high-publicized affair with actor Balthazar Getty. Things popped off in 2008 when the two met through Getty's Brothers & Sisters co-star Matthew Rhys, who had previously hooked up with Miller. Getty was married with children at the time, but that didn't stop Miller—best known for her failed relationships—from getting involved. Compromising photos of Getty and Miller's not-so-secret romantic getaway to Positano, Italy surfaced in August 2008, temporarily derailing Getty’s marriage. In the end, however, Getty reconciled with his wife and Miller was left by her lonesome.
Alicia Keys
When: 2010
Who: Swizz Beatz and Mashonda Tifrere
Swizz Beatz and R&B singer Mashonda were happily married from 2004 to 2008, but an alleged affair between Swizz and Alicia Keys lead to a separation and subsequent divorce. The timing of the relationships has been marred by contradicting testimony. Mashonda accused Keys of reckless behavior and Keys denied any intimate involvement while Swizz and Mashonda were still together.
"We didn't start seeing each other until months after they had separated," Keys told Essence in 2011.
"As far as I knew we were celebrating our son's birth and getting ready to celebrate our five-year wedding anniversary," Mashonda tweeted in an open letter to Keys.
The truth is somewhere out there, but in the end, Mashonda took the L and Keys got her man.
Kim Kardashian
When: 2010
Who: Kanye West and Amber Rose
Amber Rose dated Kanye West for two highly-publicized years. “He is your typical rapper in the industry,” Amber dished to the NY Post in January. “He can’t be faithful, and it’s not just with one person. He’s just unfaithful with a lot of different women." The most publicized of Yeezy's affairs was with reality TV star Kim Kardashian.
“Kim is one of the main reasons why me and Kanye are not together,” Amber told Star. “She’s a homewrecker." Kardashian allegedly sent inappropriate messages and pictures to West, and when Rose confronted her about it via text, Kim never responded. After Amber split with Kanye, she allegedly smashed Kim's ex-boyfriend Reggie Bush and eventually wound up with Wiz Khalifa. And, well, we're sure you know plenty about Kim and Kanye's recent history of dating.
Amber Heard
When: 2011
Who: Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis
After a 14-year partnership, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis split in June 2012. Mere weeks after announcing their split, the 49-year-old actor had already moved on with actress Amber Heard. However, their intimacy isn't exactly a recent development. The two met previously on the set of The Rum Diary in 2009, but weren't romantically involved until Depp and Paradis' relationship was on the rocks.
"They started sleeping together during the press tour," an insider offered about the timing of the initial tryst. While it is unlikely that Heard was Depp's only misstep, she was certainly one of the main culprits.
Angelina Jolie
When: 2004
Who: Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston
Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston tied the knot in July 2000 and were happily married for almost five years. Both were mega stars, and their relationship was considered by many to be a rarity, given the fickle nature of Hollywood romance. Then things got hairy when Pitt signed on to star alongside Angelina Jolie in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Reports of an alleged affair leaked soon after filming began in 2004, and although both denied the rumors, it was apparent that they were in cahoots. By March 2005, Aniston had seen enough and filed for divorce. Pitt and Jolie were dubbed "Brangelina" and started a United Colors of Benetton family together shortly thereafter.
