Come 2014, 32 New York City parks will have free WiFi. Cablevision and Time Warner have arranged a deal with the city to provide the first thirty minutes of service for free, and it will be available for 99 cents per day after that. Sounds fair, no?

Well the New York Daily Newsdid some digging and learned that apparently, those thirty free minutes are actually three 10-minute sessions. Ten minutes? Hell, sometimes it takes that long just to establish a connection.

The deal was set up to renew Time Warner and Cablevision's contracts with the city, and force them to dump $30 million into citywide communications upgrades. City Councilwoman Gale Brewer argues that "there should be totally free wireless in the parks," and we agree.
