A Georgia man was arrested and charged with murder this week after leaving his 22-month old son inside of an SUV all day while temperatures exceeded 90 degrees.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says that 33-year-old Justin Ross Harris of Marietta, Ga. forgot to drop his son, Cooper, off at a daycare center early Wednesday morning. Instead, he left his son strapped into his car seat while he worked at Home Depot, not discovering the boy until he was driving home.

This led to a frantic effort to revive the child, who, by then, had passed away. A witness told the Journal-Constitution that Harris was screaming "What have I done? What have I done? I've killed our child" after his son was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Journal-Constitution said that the Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the child's official cause of death. In addition to murder, Harris has also been charged with first-degree cruelty to children.
