Now that waitress Dayna Morales' honesty has been called into question, others are stepping forward with tales of her lies.
Earlier this month, Morales, a waitress at Asian Gallop Bistro in Bridgewater, N.J., claimed that a couple refused to tip her because she's a lesbian. The couple has since provided a receipt from the same day, printed at the same time and with the same total and a tip. They also have a document, which they say is a visa bill, that shows their card was charged for $111.55—he cost of the tab, plus an $18 tip.
The Journal News says that Morales lied about having cancer, the extent of damage to her home as a result of Hurricane Sandy and her time in the military. She reportedly told co-workers that she shaved her head because she had brain cancer, only to tell them later that she did it to support a friend who had brain cancer.
She also allegedly told co-workers that Hurricane Sandy sent a boat into her living room, severely damaging her Stormy Point home. According to the Journal News, when co-workers visited out of concern, they only saw minor damage.
Finally, she said that everyone else in her platoon in Afghanistan was killed in an explosion. While a military spokesman confirmed that she was, in fact, a marine, Gothamist says he added that nothing indicated that Morales was in combat in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Morales insists that the handwriting on the check she originally presented was not hers, but the Journal News says an ex-girlfriend told them it resembled hers. The restaurant is investigating both her claims and the couple's response.
