In June, actress Chloe Dykstra published a Medium essay in which she revealed troubling details of an ex-boyfriend’s long term emotional and sexual abuse. She took great pains to keep the man in question anonymous, but soon many had connected the dots and assumed she was referring to Chris Hardwick, host of Talking Dead, the Nerdist podcast, and the former host of Comedy Central’s now-canceled late night show, @Midnight. Hardwick denied the claims, but he still felt the sting in his career, as he was pulled from AMC's Talking with Chris Hardwick and dropped from scheduled appearances at San Diego Comic-Con.
Earlier this week, AMC announced that their investigation led them to believe “the appropriate step” was to reinstate Hardwick as host of Talking Dead. He is set to make his official return on August 12. On Thursday, Dykstra posted a note on Twitter that appeared to respond to this news. She shared she did not cooperate with the investigation and is only looking to the future.
She reiterated that her initial intention with the essay, which was originally posted as unlisted, was to seek closure. “I have said what I wanted to say on the matter, and I wish to move on with my life,” she wrote.
“What I wanted was for the people around me who heard a false narrative—one that was created to hurt me and my career—to know the truth,” the actress continued. She vowed to “continue this conversation” by working with institutions and support groups set up to help those who have suffered from emotional abuse.
“I hope that the hatred, the name calling, the death threats can go away and we can return to productive discourse,” she wrote.
Per ComicBook.com, Yvette Nicole Brown, who has taken over Talking Dead hosting duties while Hardwick was being investigated, will be in charge of TheWalking Dead Season 9 preview special on August 5, but that looks like it’ll be the end of her gig.
